Cyclocross State Championships This Sunday In Macon!
www.georgia-cross.com
This years edition of Cyclocross in Macon is exactly the same as last
year, only-----it's backwards!!
Cereal Bowl hill is meaner than ever, the twists and turns in the field will
make you dizzy, the beach will make you swear off sand and sunscreen forever.
But the feature that may prove key is the long dirt road. You ride all of
it this year, Formula 1 turn is now downhill and off camber and then,
the long climb out. More than one racer will watch the pack go away on the
climb. Then one more bit of grass with some barriers thrown in for good measure,
then back to the asphalt, into the wind and back at it all over again.
It's not too late to take up croquet!! For more info check out the website
www.georgia-cross.com.

See you at Indian Springs in Jackson , Georgia this Sunday!
More Cross News As the trout swims the waters gently flowing down Big
Sandy Creek he enjoys the relaxing gurgle. After a few miles of swimming he
notices the sound changes to silence. What is this pool? He keeps swimming going
with the hidden current in the Chief McIntosh Lake. Before long he is tossed
over the top of the spillway and crashes down back in to Big Sandy Creek. He
thinks he is back to safety but he does not know about the shoals and rapids
just around the bend. Who would be so evil as to put a dam in the creek that
made the lake and that horrid spillway?
That will not be the only question asked this Sunday. Who thought running up a
dam would be a good challenge? There are two hills that are legendary in the
Georgia Cross circuit. Slip and slide up the Marietta hill and this dam hill.
No, not dam with a n in it, but that adjective will be spewed out many times
during the days racing. Back by popular demand will be the Chief McIntosh's dam
hill and other delights. Last year's short course will be the foundation for a
longer season finale. Yes we found more twists and turns. There will be the
crazy fast downhill but maybe not so fast due to some erosion. There will be the
jump across the road. Air is optional but Sam showed us how a mountain biker
crosses the road. The gravel climb is still nasty. The pointless hill climb
before the downhill will be there. The putt putt course does not have a windmill
so that will not be part of the course.
Those of you who thought Macon had too many straight aways will love Indian
Springs. We hope you attend. Not only will the course be great but there are
plenty of other activities and attractions. There is a great season end raffle
you must be present particapte in. I hear the bakers will be hard at work
Saturday baking old and new sweet race favorites. Don't forget the costume party
by Team Sorella.
For those families with younger kids. There is a playground and a putt putt
course. The creek, the beach and the lake. Mom or Dad racing.
12-6-2006 Big
Creek News From SORBA-RAMBO concerning Big Creek
New rules and stuff happening.
#1) NO BIKES on the gravel dust walking trail that descends from the maintenance
road. PERIOD. Leave the orange fences up. These orange fences will be replaced
with split rail fence soon. If you take them down, it it pretty much 100%
assumed by all that it is the bikers and you hurt item #3
#2) this is an overall big creek "warning" for doggie lovers. Park rangers are
done handing out warnings for dogs off leashes. They have been very active out
there lately (the rangers!) and are now just writing tickets. No questions no
excuses. They were very atimate (sp?) about the fact they have bee issuing
warnings for 3 months and are very frustrated by dog owners letting fido run
free. Take heed or pass the word around.
#3)We now will start "fixing", re-routing and laying out new runs, putting up
LONG overdue signage (for liability) in the 'ole dH area. REMINDER....NOBODY can
build out there unless under RAMBO/CITY of ROSWELL parks dept permission. We
will put pen to paper , get plan ready, submitt and start work as fast as we can
get it all done. Apparently some parks staff and park rangers have been telling
folks/kids that they can build out there. I got clarification on this yesterday
with parks staff and they agree this is NOT the way to care for that area. It
would create nothing but problems....anyone remember the old signs the builders
used to post out there to each other? We get 1 plan, approved and work it from
there together.

Mountain Bike Series This year, the event is presented by Heartwood Tree
Service, the Dirt Divas and Charlotte Sports Cycling. The series will
consist of five races, Jan 20 and 28, Feb 3, 11 and 17 all held at the infamous
Renaissance Park short track. If you haven't ever participated in the short
track series, come on out and give it a try, it's an absolute blast! It takes in
elements of mountain biking, BMX and a road criterium. After each event,
we will have hot food, yeap the legendary Boyd vegetable
soup. We are also in the process of working a new food sponsor, hopefully
we will have more info soon. We have added a new category to the event, Junior
Girls. The short track is a great place for kids to give mountain bike racing a
try. Invite a friend and come on out. For more info on the series, visit
