6-12-2007 I'm back! It was a great break. My husband and I went to Tuscany, Italy for a 6 day horseback riding holiday. The horses, the people, the scenery, and the food were amazing! I usually don't share personal photos on my website, but I wanted to put up two. Thanks for indulging me. Now, I'm ready to get back on the bike!

Trish and Chris Eating Gelato in Siena, Italy.

Trish back in the saddle (of a horse) again. For those that ride, the horse was an Italian Saddle Horse named Guitto.

Jittery Joe's Documentary Rescheduled From the Bean Team about this weekend's airing of the JJ's documentary on Versus: "Due to some technical issues, the documentary was not aired today. It is tentatively rescheduled for a July slot during the Tour de France coverage. We are disappointed, but we'll be sure to let you know when a new date is set. Thanks to everyone who responded to the announcements about the show."

Sandy Springs Videos From gteam Cycleworks: "Turner Internet Sports has a done another fine job this year and delivered the video links to our website: www.northgeorgiacycling.com. Please pass the word. And on behalf of Team Cycleworks p/b Lowe's Mortgage and North Georgia Cycling Association I want to extend another thank you for helping us make this event a success. We look forward to seeing you all at the same venues next year!

Steel Magnolias Ride From Team Cycleworks regarding the Tuesday Steel Magnolias Ride: "Recently, changes have been in an effort to slow the pace in some areas of the route that have become more popular with walkers and runners. Also, a second, more casual group option is now offered to encourage past & new cyclists to join. We listened to riders who may have heard or been discouraged from returning due to the increased average speed the ride has morphed to.

No change: Ride starts 6:30 PM, CycleWorks, 4969 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30342

Changes:
1) At the rider meeting, we will announce 'B' group that leaves 3-5 minutes after the 'A' group. The B group is for everyone who desires a more casual pace. The main group has been clocking 18-19 average lately and the 2nd group about 14-16. The B group will have a CycleWorks member leading the group.

2) Silver Lake Neutral Zone: Entering the Silver Lake neighborhood, this section is now neutralized and the pace is slowed. The Neutral zone begins when turning left off Windsor Pkwy and ends when returning to Windsor Pkwy. Historically, each group ride has treated this stretch as an all-out speed fest thru the neighborhood. Recent close calls with pedestrians and vehicles has mandated that a change be made. This effort is aimed at reducing the possibility of pedestrian/auto and cyclist close calls and incidents. There are plenty of other sections of the route where anyone can try out their legs and put a hurt on everyone. Silver Lake is no longer that section.

What is 'neutralized'? Specifically for the A group, if a rider or group of riders is in a breakaway and gapped the main pack, the break and the pack all reduce speed and spin thru the section. In racing, if everyone observes the neutral zone, no time is made up on the break and the pack respects the efforts of the break. Race speed resumes after exiting the zone.

After the ride, we meet across Roswell Road at Nancy G's for dinner. Nancy has welcomed us again this year and we appreciate her support for the organization.

We hope these changes will bring back some riders who may have left us in the past and encourage new riders to join us. If you have a chance, please join us. Thanks for reading, Sid Carter http://www.northgeorgiacycling.com/.

Roswell Ride News From Bike Roswell: "Please Excuse the list hijack, but I wanted to get the word out about the Roswell Thurs Night Ride 6:30 A group start 6:35 B group Start 6:15 C group start from Riverside.

The A group will continue to go at 6:30 the B group will now leave at 6:35. If you are a fast B grouper try the A start and know that you will get swept up with the B peloton. We have had too many complaints about running red lights so we need to divide the groups that have been going together lately. Please obey the traffic laws and remain two abreast."

RAAM I normally don't cover endurance road cycling, but local riders Pete Maisel and Wendy Gardiner are racing RAAM right now. They are the mixed team, "Team Kitten." You can track their progress here. Good luck! (Teams start a few days after the solo riders, and it looks like they haven't started as of 6/11.)

State Championships Congratulations to all of the State Champions crowned at the Union City Mayor's Race! Results are on the newly redesigned Georgia Cup website.

Message From Avondale Police Everyone,  Please take this seriously. The Avondale Police Chief
emailed this to me personally.

"Earlier this year (February), the Avondale Estates Police Department attempted to contact the local
cycling clubs and request that while cycling through our picturesque community to please observe the rules of the road. This action was taken in an effort so as everyone could safely enjoy the use of the
roadways. To our delight, we received messages in return from some cycling clubs that were both positive and supportive of our efforts in having motorists and cyclists learn to have a mutual respect of one another on our roads.

Unfortunately, some cyclists either never received the message or have decided to disregard our request. Complaints are continuing to be received from our citizens and noticeable violations observed by our officers. Motorists and cyclists are not our only concerns, but pedestrians as well. In the areas
around the city park, cyclists have been observed traveling downhill at a high rate of speed and
disregarding stop signs totally unaware of parents pushing infants in strollers and elderly residents
walking their pets, a possible tragedy in the making. It is required by law that cyclists ride no more than two abreast, but yet we have been having cyclists traveling in high-speed packs.

Once again, it is our request (and hope) that area cyclists who enjoy riding through our community will
observe the rules of the road. If there is not an  apparent reduction in the number of complaints
received pertaining to cyclists and their actions, we will be obligated to initiate enforcement of the
traffic code and issue citations (not warnings) for observed violations.

Please contact as many members of your club (and other clubs) as possible and circulate this message. This is a situation that has a remedy, but needs everyone's cooperation.

Respectfully,  Gary L. Broden, Chief of Police, Avondale Estates Police Dept."

Knoxville Crit Cancelled The Knoxville Crit that was scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled. It may be rescheduled for later this year.

6-14-2007 Pizza Ride News The Thursday Pizza ride that leaves Avondale Pizza Cafe at 6:30PM We are going back to the older style loop- as the road construction/tunnel is complete.

6-25-2007 BREAKING NEWS ABOUT THE GEORGIA CUP!!! From the Georgia Cup website: "Dahlonega has been postponed due to safety concerns heavy traffic during the holiday weekend and lack of available officers to staff the event and ensure the success and safety of these races and riders. We are currently working with police and race calendars to find another date for the event. We apologize for the major inconvenience. INFO REGARDING THE REMAINDER OF THE 2007 MAXXIS GEORGIA CUP WILL BE POSTED BEFORE THE END OF THE MONTH." Trish's note: uuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I really hope that they can pull it together. If not, it will leave a huge hole in the road race calendar in Georgia. IMO, I'd like to see them produce 4-5 QUALITY events per year rather than try to have a race or 3 every month. I think they can do it! They have the motivation, they just need to organization.

TN Cross Series From TBRA: TBRA ANOUNCES CYCLOCROSS BAR SERIES The cyclocross promoters in association with TBRA have finalized some high-level details to establish a new Best Area Rider (BAR) series for the cyclocross discipline. Cyclocross events in Tennessee, over the last few seasons, have grown to well over 15 well-promoted events. For this reason, the TBRA officers felt the time was right to establish a series.

Both the TBRA board and current cyclocross promoters have agreed to have Dan Werle as the acting cyclocross director to facilitate the series administration. The cyclocross director will be positioned as a TBRA officer with a role very similar to the road and mountain director’s role. The position will assist the promoter in meeting all TBRA and USA Cycling requirements and producing a well-promoter event. Dan Werle is no stranger to promoting cyclocross races; he has successfully promoted the Nashville Cyclocross series since its inception. Dan can be contacted at cyclocross-director@tbra.org In addition to conducting a cyclocross BAR series, TBRA will support and help promote the Tennessee Cyclocross Championship. Details are still be ironed out although the venue will be centrally located.

The Cyclocross BAR competition will officially begin in October and end in February or early March with the top places awarded prizes at the subsequent TBRA Celebration of Champions. Official categories have not been finalized. All TBRA officers are excited about this initiative and believe that offering a cyclocross series is a reflection of your passion to see competitive cycling grow in Tennessee. Question? Please contact the TBRA officers at info@tbra.org
