Roswell Crit Survey Please take a minute to answer this survey regarding the Historic Roswell Criterium. During these challenging economic times every all events are being scrutinized and need to justify their existence. As we all know, cycling events are always difficult to quantify when it comes to economic impact. Just look at what happened to the Tour of Georgia this year.

I enjoy doing Southeastern Cycling and hope YOU enjoy it as a resource for racing in Georgia and the Southeast. If you plan to stick around Georgia, I also have plenty of group rides list and maps for the area on the website.

3-5-2009 GABRA News From GABRA: GA Bicycle Racing Association March Meeting

Verge has been chosen as the official sponsor for the state championship Jeresey. GABRA will be ordering jerseys for all race categories for both the Road and Cyclocross Championships. The race promoters will be asked to pay for only those jerseys awarded at their respective race which will reduce their costs and provide a consistent state championship jersey design.
The East Point Velodrome has been awarded up to $1500 to offset the costs to put on a road/track clinic for Georgia riders age 15-17. This clinic will be taught by Jeff Hopkins, Tim Henry, and a yet to be named local women's professional rider. Stay tuned for more details of this summer clinic or check with Dick Lane Velodrome.

Mental Toughness Coach Lance has another article about Mental Toughness. It's the start of the race season--good advice!

Roswell Crit Needs Your Help! Hey everyone,  Thanks for taking the time to answer the Historic Roswell Criterium survey,
we've had over 250 responses so far and the data has been very helpful.

The Roswell City Council is looking to cut budget in all areas due to the current economic conditions. This bike race is on the chopping block and the only one who can help stop that is you! We need to prove to the Roswell City Council we are passionate about this race and want to see it continue.

There is a City Council meeting on Monday, March 16th at 7:30pm. We need to get as many people in there as possible. If only three people show up, we can kiss this race goodbye. However, if we get a solid showing, say 100 people, it would be very difficult for them to tell us they have to cancel the race.

If you cannot make it, please help us by sending an email to the members of the Roswell City Council. Here are their email addresses.

Jerry Orlans - jorlans@roswellgov.com
Lori Henry - lhenry@roswellgov.com
Rich Dippolito - rdippolito@roswellgov.com
David Tolleson - dtolleson@roswellgov.com
Becky Winn - bwinn@roswellgov.com
Kent Igleheart - kigleheart@roswellgov.com

Please copy your emails to roswellcriterium@gmail.com . We will take copies of all the emails to the meeting with us. Thanks again for your help. Please pass this email along to as many cyclists or cycling lists as you know. Regards, Michael Johnson Race Director Historic Roswell Criterium

2009 BIKE! Charlotte - Wheels of Opportunity
The theme for the 2009 edition of BIKE! Charlotte, “Wheels of Opportunity”, was developed to promote the many opportunities the citizens of the Queen City have to integrate the bicycle into their daily routine. These opportunities we have to incorporate the bike into your life may be as simple as a short trip to the bank, the grocery store or even the post office. Commuting to work by bicycle may be a sizeable undertaking for many people but a short trip to a frequently visited place is easily possible for everyone. Our goal with BIKE! Charlotte is to empower, educate and encourage the populace that integrating the bicycle into your life can be a very simple process and is quite rewarding. Incorporating the bike into you life will pedal your way to better health, saving money, cleaner air, more energy, losing weight, independence, and easier parking.
Info on BIKE! Charlotte will be posted at www.bike-charlotte.org
See you on the bike. Neal Charlotte Sports Cycling Inc. www.charlottesportscycling.com

Athens Rides
Monday: Meet at Sunshine bike shop downtown. a little over an hour, goes out towards winterville. typically a relaxed ride (recovery for the weekend racer types) with an optional sprint coming back into town on south milledge. the 3:30 monday is the same route as the 6:00 monday.

Tuesday: starts out by the silo's (Mexican Grocery) off J River/Prince and heads out north, coming back on Nowhere Rd. Rolling climbs and aggressive riding determine who stays and who cracks. The fastest will get into town before it gets dark the first week or so. While this is the fastest ride of the week, this is a good ride to practice your skills against local Athens pros and former pro Micah Rice.

Wednesday: starts at the Hub bike shop. Goes out towards watkinsville/high shoals. hilly and a bit fast, sprint on the way back on old bishop road. slightly longer, the first week may need to be truncated slightly to get back into town before it gets dark.

Thursday: starts at Cycle Sport. Goes out towards Arnoldsville/Winterville. slow-to-moderate with a 5 mile sprint on Arnoldsville Rd. Years past haveincluded a beer for the winner, though chris will tell you he's been teased all of 2007, so we'll have to enforce a drinking policy to those 21 and over. Like the Wednesday, the first week may need to be truncated to get into town before it gets dark.

Roswell Crit Thanks From Eric Broadwell: "A BIG THNK YOU goes to al that came and a special thank you to coach Kelly of Frazier Cycling for speaking to the Roswell city council. The knowledge that Roswell had a stake in the future of our sport may have been the deciding factor. The sheer showing of support from Cuming at Reality Bikes, Fraziers, Fulton Fliers; Roswell
Bicycles, Roswell Velo, Bike Roswell, and those that don't race, but ride and those dirty bike friends that came to support us from RAMBO and finally those tri-people! We filled the room and made an impression. Everyone that spoke for the race had very solid reasons for it to continue. Be proud we did the right thing..."

Bike Shops-FREE ADVERTISING FOR ONE YEAR! Ask me about free advertising for one year on Southeastern Cycling! sttarlite@hotmail.com (yes, there is a catch!!)

Lack of Updates Sorry for the somewhat lack of updates this week. I've been sick since last Tuesday and was even off work Thursday and part of Friday. Hopefully, I'll start feeling better in the next few days. It stinks not being able to ride in this gorgeous weather!

Rides Don't forget the group rides going on after work. Many are starting at 6:00 or 6:15 until the first week of April. Check with the ride leader for your favorite ride.

Buckhead Bellyache B Group I will be leading the "B" group starting April 1. We will start at 6:15 from the St. Phillips parking lot. We'll average probably 15.5-17 mph. The A group will leave at 6:30 with a "race pace" speed. They usually average 21-23 mph.

While this is NOT a no drop ride, I plan to have a regroup at the top of the Camalbacks/Home Depot and then at the top of Paces Ferry the first few weeks til people know the route. We'll wait on the majority of the group (you are on your own if you more than a few minutes behind us b/c we don't want to get caught by the A group). Also, this is not a beginner ride. You should be comfortable riding in a group on a very hilly course. The Bellyache is very hilly and has 3 major climbs! Road bikes are required.

Maps are at: http://www.sadlebred.com/atlroadrides.html

The route is VERY, VERY well marked. Don Dutson updated the markings about 2 weeks ago.

**This ride is not sponsored by any group, person, bike shop, organization, or club. There is no insurance. You are on your own and ride at your own risk. --My standard disclaimer.
