Rome CX Thanks to the Cycletherapy guys for putting on a cyclocross race today in Rome! It was fun, and money was raised for a local women's shelter. The course was a lot of fun with a good combination of dismounts and technical sections. Most of it was flat, my favorite kind of course! I won the Women's race! I am so excited!! It's my first cyclocross win in several years....I won a case of beer for my efforts.

The Women's podium: 4th-Kirga Szaniawski (Smyrna Bicycles), 1st- Trish Albert (Team Medplan), 3rd-Amy Frank (Peachtree Bikes). Podium Boys: Adam Sitz and Joshua Frank

11-4-2009 Weather What do I think about the weather this week???

Found Bike From a few boards: A light blue felt Curbside men's bike was recovered from Chamblee Dunwoody Road last night. No serial number. Call the Dunwoody Police at 678-382-6900 if yours. http://twitter.com/DunwoodyPolice/status/5289534739

11-6-2009 2010 Calendar Update I've put up the 2010 Calendar. Please note that NONE of the local road racing associations have put out their calendars. I know the Carolinas and TN promoters meetings don't happen til Dec. GA has a preliminary calendar, but I don't have it. Gone Riding has a preview of their 2010 schedule at www.goneriding.com. I will add their races to my calendar as dates and venues are finalized, probably mid-December. There is just too much change right now for me to put up any schedules. On the 2010 calendar, the ONLY dates that are confirmed are with a * by them. At this point, it's only cyclocross races in Jan. and Feb. and the Snake Creek Gap XC races.

Ride Reminder Just a reminder that most weekend rides including Tucker move to 10:00 this weekend.

Gregg Limbird Passes Away There are many in the Atlanta Cycling Community that knew Gregg Limbird. His brother sent out an email that "after almost of 2 years of a valiant and courageous effort of fighting lung cancer, long time Atlanta cycling persona, Gregg Limbird succombed to cancer today. He will surely be missed....

My Irish Twin…..
Gregg........
I know
the strengths, the weaknesses,
the positives the negatives,
the good the bad,
the wit,
the caustic delivery,
the lyric, the melody
the rhythm of the finger pick,
the trueness of the plane, and
the square of the joint
for we have traveled many miles
and it is the thought of the end of those miles that pains my heart......

Jon Limbird"

Please keep the Limbird family in your thoughts.

Gregg Limbird and Lance Armstrong Foundation From Todd Fryburger: Many thanks to the 200+ cyclists who came out on Sunday morning to honor the memory of Gregg Limbird on the Silk Sheets ride. What a great turnout and ride on such a beautiful Fall day. Gregg would most certainly have enjoyed it. At the services for Gregg on Sunday afternoon, the Buckhead Velo Club (Bolla Wines) announced that it will honor Gregg this year by dedicating our 2010 team uniform, and our charitable efforts, to his memory. We will be supporting the Livestrong Challenge, inspired by the hope, courage and perserverence of the nearly 12 million Americans affected by cancer. Cancer is a beast, a modern day plague which affects too many lives around us. We are still working through the logistics. We have an initial composite of the design (attached), which will adopt facets of the Livestrong yellow, black, grey and white scheme. We are also in the process of registering the team with the Livestrong Challenge. We are also giving consideration to various means by which we can use this as a vehicle to raise money to fight cancer, perhaps hosting a future ride or race, amongst other ideas. I was approached by many people yesterday, who asked if they could purchase a jersey or kit, even if they are not on the team. The answer is a resounding "Yes!"
Our view is that we are opening the team this year to one and all, the more the merrier, in deference to our cause, as greater visibility will help us with our charitable endowment, and of course, serve as a broader tribute to Gregg. The 2010 team kit will include Full-Zip Short Sleeved Jersey, Full-Zip Short Sleeved Summer Weight Jersey, Winter Jacket, Wind Vest, Bib Shorts, Regular Shorts, Cycling Gloves, Arm Warmers, Cycling Socks, and Giro Helmet. As in past years, our custom order will be placed with Giordana Custom (http://www.gitabike.com/cgi-bin/shop/custom_loadhome.cgi?user_id=id&file=custom.html), so if you went to their web site and looked at their on-line catalog, you will get an idea of the products and sizing http://gitabike-catalogs.com/application/_Giordana_Custom_2010_/index.php.

Mark Trimble (mark.trimble at enervision-inc.com), our team Treasurer, will coordinate the order process. (Trish's note: Contact Mark if you want to order a kit or jersey). Our goal is to complete the design and process our order with Giordana by 11/27/09. Therein, I simply wanted to acknowledge the great turnout yesterday, and also let you know that we will indeed make these kits available to the cycling community at large. Please feel to distribute this note to others who may have interest. Best Regards, TODD

11-24-2009 FGSCycling Announces Team From the team: There will be a new regional, elite (cat 1,2) cycling team in the South this year: The Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains, a charity that raises money to preserve the nation's most visited nation park, is partnering with a private donor to sponsor an elite cycling team for the 2010 race season. Our website is live and contains sponsor news, news about the national park, and news about our big up coming event--our Peaks Coaching /Team Swag auction: www.fgscycling.com

To celebrate our team launch, we will be auctioning off several hundred dollars of unique team gear designed by Sugoi as well as custom socks designed by DeFeet, and the winner of the auction will also receive a month of coaching from power guru Hunter Allen's Peaks Coaching Group. If the winner decides to continue working with Peaks Coaching after the free month is up, he or she will become a FGS Cycling guest rider and will get more swag and a spot on our website. We'll have two of these identical auctions running through ebay once Sugoi sends us our clothing proofs (it is looking like mid December for the auctions). The money from those auctions will go to help fund the team. We'll be doing a separate fund raiser online during July to raise money for the Park (to tie into the Tour and all the increased interest that it brings).

The destructive hemlock wooly adelgid beetle is eating many of the trees in the park. The Friends group raises the money to fund the science necessary to beat the beetle and keep the park green and lush. John Hart Team Director/Captain FGSCycling

Do NOT Park at the Fountain Oaks Shopping Center From NGCA (Trish's note: NGCA received this and asked me to pass it along.) Please post the following notice as a public service announcement:

Effective immediately: Cyclists are no longer welcome to park and ride from the Fountain Oaks Shopping Center in Sandy Springs(4920 Roswell Road). Anyone who parks and cycles from the center may have their vehicle towed. Property management has reiterated this stance twice to our organization and we feel we need to distribute this ASAP to the community. Though NGCA no longer leads a ride from this location, the property management still connects our name to any & all cyclists who might use the facility and therefore we are taking the lead in getting this message to the community.

In the same center, our sponsor Nancy G's Cafe remains our sponsor and we continue to support this relationship 100%.

Please post and pass the word: No parking Sid Carter North Georgia Cycling Association(NGCA) Team CycleWorks p/b HDR
