12-4-2010 Georgia Cup 2011  From the Georgia Cup: Spincycle Sports Marketing’s Georgia Cup race series, now entering its 10th year, has risen to the top as one of the nation’s largest race series put on by a single promoter. 2011 will prove to offer substantial growth once again, with the inclusion of other events in addition to the eight race weekends offered, including the penultimate six-stage Tour of Atlanta. The Atlanta Weekday Criterium Series will take place on Wednesday nights this spring and summer. There will also be a winter training time trial series running each Saturday in January and two Saturdays in February. The group will also branch out into the hot new Grand Fondo arena, offering four of these events over the course of the summer and fall. Altogether the series will be known as The Georgia Cup Health and Wellness Series. Champion System, manufacturers of high quality sports apparel, has signed on to be the official clothing sponsor for 2011. Champion System’s product line can be found at www.champ-sys.com. “We are excited about Champion System coming on board this year and providing top quality leaders’ jerseys to the Georgia Cup. Their custom program is phenomenal in that you can start an order with a minimum of ten pieces with an unlimited amount of color selections. Most companies I’ve dealt with in the past would never touch that,” commented Brady Rogers, Promotions and Marketing Director for Spincycle. Also jumping into the “mix” with the Georgia Cup this year will be MIX 1, www.mix1life.com . “Most athletes from seasoned professionals to weekend warriors understand how much they need to train in order to achieve their goals. Proper nutrition, along with training, can drastically improve physical performance and take an athlete to the next level. There are many sports nutrition products claiming to deliver amazing benefits that in reality fall short due to compromised or inadequate levels of ingredients. This is how I came up with the idea for MIX 1,” states MIX 1 founder Dr. James, ND. Follow the Georgia cup at www.georgiacup.com, on Facebook at Georgia Cup and on Twitter @georgiacup. We look forward to some great racing this year. See you on the road!

Upstate Bicycle League Just a reminder that the first UWBL is this Saturday, December 4th. A and B groups leave at 10 am from Carolina Tri in downtown Greenville. For more information got to www.uwbl.net.

12-6-2010 Georgia Cross Series The Georgia Cross Series wrapped up on Sunday at Elks Aidmore in Conyers. Thanks to promoter Jim Behning and all of the volunteers! I'd like to express my personal thanks to the rest of the Board of Directors for a great 2010 cross series. We are planning to make 2011 even better! Thanks to all of the promoters. YOU make the races happen! Thank you to the volunteers that dedicate a day (or a week) to helping put on each race. Thank you to the racers for racing and giving the spectators a great show this year. Thank you to the spectators for supporting our cross racers....and finally...

Thank you to the A Ladies! I think that each year gets better and better for the Georgia A Ladies. I've never raced with a more wonderful group of ladies. The support everyone has shown towards one another this is really something special. The battle for the series overall between Rebecca Graham (Faster Mustache) and Becca Phelan (ACC) was one for the record books. Congratulations to you both for going 1-2! I can't wait until our ranks grow in 2011!

Southern Cross From 55 Nine: What is Southern Cross? Southern Cross is an epic cyclocross race based in the Chattahoochee National Forest of north Georgia. In the same vein as the The Three Peaks Challenge and Iron Cross, the course will consist of a "traditional" cross course with twists, turns, run-ups & barriers. Then participants will head out on either a 30 or 50 mile loop of dirt and paved roads featuring mountain top vistas, rolling rivers and tumbling creeks. Finally the course finishes with another CX course with features that the UCI would not approve like the Wall!

You'll note a lot of changes for the 2011 edition of the Southern Cross including two distances for the adults, either 30 miles or 50 miles, more categories, more payout, and a juniors/kids race. There's a new start/finish venue at the Montaluce Winery and Estates and t-shirts designed in collaboration with TwinSix and Krautstache. What will not change is the challenge of the race, a generous post racemeal, southern brews (and now wine) plus cash and prizes. Check the website for details.

Bama Cross Email: marshallbrent@gmail.com Web: www.bamacross.com Gadsden Winter Cyclocross Weekend

A two-day, two-wheeled, pedal-powered racing event is coming to Moragne Park in Gadsden, Ala. Gadsden Winter Cyclocross Weekend, presented by the Etowah County Tourism Board and the Gadsden Park and Recreation Department, is taking place Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 29-30, 2011.

Cyclocross is the fastest growing cycling discipline in the United State and has built a growing following in Alabama. From weekend warriors to nationally ranked elite racers; men and women from around the state and region race their bicycles through complex courses of mud, sand, grass and pavement in the European tradition of Cyclocross. The races combine the intensity of a short track BMX or mountain bike race with the high speeds and grace or road cycling.

Cyclists race in spectator friendly timed events of up to 1-hour through a circuit course of varying terrain. The course at Moragne Park is expected to include deep sand, mud, and steep sections that will force racers to dismount and run while carrying their bicycles. The family friendly environment becomes immediately apparent during the children’s race (free to participants) where family and friends cheer on children as they race a special course through the park. Participants often contribute to this festive atmosphere by tailgating and picnics through the races. A party for racers, spectators, friends and family is planned for Saturday night.

Races start at 10 a.m. with a Masters race (ages 35+ and 45+) and continue with different classes — including women — with a final elite race at 12:30. The race, planned for the same days as the World Cyclocross Championships in St. Wendel, Germany, should bring out the toughest of the tough as they battle through the cold weather, wind and extreme conditions of traditional cyclocross racing. In order to further amplify the excitement about the concurrent races a live video feed on a big screen TV on the elites battling for the rainbow jersey of the world championship will be on hand.

12-21-2010 Rome CX News Rome Winter CX From Bob Kuhn: I should have the riders guide out in the next day or two which will have most all information about the races. We are going to have pint glasses for sale but we only ordered around 50-75 and they should be going for $10 each. No T-shirts unless folks want to pre-order and we mail them in February. Trey has informed me that there will be child care at the races sponsored by a youth group trying to earn money for a ski trip, so tips would be nice for them. nestTrey has had a number of people already working on the course and David Heath (who's farm we used last year) has been our go to guy on course design and preparation. He has been fabulous. Also note that the race times/categories are different from GA CX races. We are working on a end of the season party at Cycle Therapy after the last race on the 23rd.
