KenBikeLaw.com Psycho Cross From the DLV: Had a few people
ask this past weekend, and the velodrome will once again be running
it's 'cross race this year. It will be on halloween weekend again,
with the action hitting that fan on Saturday October 30th. We're
making some small changes to the circuit, but it will be 98% the
same as 2009's course. The big news really is that we will be
hosting a 'cross sprint tournament on the Friday before the main
race. The sprint tournament is sponsored by Zipp so we'll have a few
bits
and pieces from them for prizes. Sprint heats will be 4-up, Le-Man's
start, 200m exactly and one single barrier. It will all go down on
the infield of the velodrome, and the brackets will be set-up so
that everybody will get the chance to sprint at least 3 times. This
event will be free for spectators, Saturday's race will have a $5
spectator entry, $10 for families. Folks who race the Friday night
sprints will have priority starting on the grid for Saturday's race,
and winners will start absolute front row. Categories for sprints
will be A/B
Combined, Women and C. We went with 3 categories in the interest of
time. Online registration is open.

SORBA Woodstock Women's Day From SORBA Woodstock SORBA
Woodstock and Outspokin' Bikes is hosting a Women's Day event on
October 16th at Blankets Creek. This will be a full day of skills
clinics and group rides devoted to women of all skills level, so
bring your friends, sisters, daughters, and moms. The schedule of
events is listed below.
9am-1pm Beginner's Skills Clinic We will spend half the class
working on bike set-up, basic mechanics, maintenance and basic
repairs. We will then split the class based on skill level to ride
the trail that is best for you. Class is open to women of all ages
and is designed to accommodate the newest riders. You must have a
bike, helmet and basic riding clothing. Space is limited to 20
participants, so please RSVP by sending an email to Gibsonra@juno.com.
The class is free, but please consider a $10 trail donation to
Blankets Creek Trails. This clinic will be hosted by Marcia and Alan
Gibson.
9am-11am Advanced Group Ride This group ride will be led by Lisa
Randall on VMT (Van Michael Trail) and South Loop. This ride is
intended for advanced level riders who are already familiar and
comfortable riding these two trails and is not a skills clinic. If
requested by participants, then the group may stop at particular
sections of the trails to build and share techniques with each
other. Bring plenty of water.
1pm-2pm Lunch provided by SORBA Woodstock for participants in any of
the events. The cost to participants in these events is free, but
please consider a $10 trail donation.
2pm-4pm Intermediate Group Ride This ride will be led by Marcia
Gibson on VMT and South Loop. This ride is intended for intermediate
level riders who are able to ride Dwelling comfortably and who are
moderately familiar with VMT and South Loop. This is not a skills
clinic, but if requested, the group can stop at particular sections
of the trails and work together on clearing those sections of the
trail.
2pm-4pm Beginner's Bike Maintenance Clinic This clinic will be held
by Alan Gibson to include the following topcs: Bike Set Up and
Controls, Cleaning and Lubrication, Tire Repair, Brake Set-up and
Adjustments, Chain Repair, Basic Shifting Adjustments, and Shock
Pressure Adjustments. This class is appropriate for beginners who
want to learn more about their bikes to keep them working correctly
to avoid long walks out of the woods. We will cover the above
mentioned subjects plus any other questions students may have. There
will be no riding during this class but each student should bring
their bike so individual needs can be met. Due to the demand for
this event, participants must pre-register by emailing gibsonra@juno.com.
A $10 donation at the clinic would be greatly appreciated, but not
necessary to attend. All donations will go to SORBA-Woodstock to
support trail construction. Also, bring a lawn chair to make working
on your bike more comfortable.
If you have any questions, please email me at
events@sorbawoodstock.org.

CSRA MTB Festival From the promoter: The Central Savannah
River Area chapter of SORBA is having its annual mountain bike
festival on November 6 at the Lake Springs Recreation Area on the
shore of Lake Strom Thurmond. It is a family event with trail-riding
on the nearby Bartram Trail and at Forks Area Trail System which is
about a 20-minute drive from there. There will also be various fun
events such as a innertube-popping contest for the kids and
bike-bunny-hopping for everyone. A big cookout is also planned. In
the past one of the Augusta shops has had demonstrator bikes at the
event but I am not sure if they will be there this year. Some will
come only for Saturday's events while others will make a long
weekend of it. My plan is to set up camp at nearby Petersburg
Campground on Friday morning (Nov 5) and ride the Bartram trail for
2-3 hours that afternoon. On Saturday I will do an early morning
ride at Bartram followed by a lunch break and an afternoon ride at
FATS. Will ride again at FATS on Sundary morning. If you have never
ridden two of the premier trail systems in the Southeast, here is
your chance. The there-and-back ride on Bartram from the parking
area at Petersburg to the dam is very beginner friendly.
Directions To Lake Springs Rec Area From the J. Strom Thurmond
Visitors Center, take US 221 across the dam to the Georgia side of
the lake continue for 4 miles and turn left onto Lake Springs road,
follow the road to the end where the park begins. After entering the
park proceed to the Deer Run picnic area.
FATS Located between McCormick and Augusta (1.75 hours from
Greenville), The Forks Area Trail System in Sumter National Forest
contains six loops and a connector totaling around 35 miles. Toilets
and an information kiosk illustrating all the trails are located at
the parking area/trailhead The trails are well marked and quite easy
to follow and since each loops back to the starting point you’d
have to try really hard to become lost. For more information and a
map of the trails go to this website;
http://www.sctrails.net/trails/ALLTRAILS/MountainBike/FATS.html
PETERSBURG CAMPING:
Petersburg Camp Ground is located on Strom Thurmond Lake just across
the border in Georgia and about seven miles from the FATS parking
area/trail head (which is back across the dam in South Carolina).
Heading out of McCormick toward Augusta on Hwy 28, go about 19 miles
and turn right onto Hwy 221 which goes to the Thurmond Lake dam,
power house and visitor’ s center. After crossing the dam, the
sign to Petersburg Camp Ground will be about three miles on your
right. Bath houses with toilets and hot showers, two swimming
beaches, fishing pier, hiking/cycling trail, boat ramp and 70,000
acres of water.

in the process of constructing a trail to Indian Springs State Park.
That trail is NOT COMPLETE!
THAT MEANS THE TRAIL IS NOT OPEN! Even if you tear down the ribbon
at the trail entrance IT IS STILL NOT OPEN! The trail crosses
private land where DEER HUNTING IS ALLOWED! I had a trail user
contact me and tell me there was a deer stand off the trail! THEY
HAVE PERMISSION TO BE THERE... YOU DO NOT!
We close our horse trails during deer season. Please do not ride
closed trails or we will consider closing the bike trails during
deer season as well!
When the trail is complete, there will be no hunting allowed along
the route. There will also be a posting here as to when it
officially opens.
FOR YOUR SAFETY, DO NOT RIDE CLOSED TRAILS!!!
I know it's only a handfull of folks using this trail. Don't ruin it
for everyone.

Georgia riders will meet at the Cedartown Welcome Center in
Cedartown, Ga. at 5:30 pm EDT.
Alabama riders will meet at the Eubank Welcome Center in Piedmont,

he's working on it.
We would like to begin the ride before dusk so that the ride out is
during daylight hours. The meeting place for riders from both
Alabama and Georgia will be at Borden Springs. We will have a setup
there to serve hot dogs, BBQ, chips, Chili, etc along with both hot

Casting Call I found this on a local forum:
http://jasonmaris.com/blog/?p=331 Info posted on the
website
May name is Tony Emmons writing on behalf of Jason Maris Photography
/ Method 3. We are a commercial photography studio here in Atlanta.
I'm writing because we are trying to cast for an upcoming ad
campaign for a national food product (not processed, all natural and
generic - this is more for agri-business than any brand name). I'm
not allowed to mention which one as we've had prior applicants
calling them, which is not good!
Anyway, we need some women between the age of 20-20 who are REAL
cyclists (among other fitness types). They need to be in shape and
the also need to know what it means to have been in a race. The
principal photographer, Jason, was chosen for this campaign for his
work's gritty realism. As such, he wants the real thing, the models
who have applied thus far are just not getting it. Any models chosen
will be monetarily compensated. This is not a joke, or scam, please
visit Jason's website at http://jasonmaris.com and the blog at
http://jasonmaris.com/blog/?p=331with the particulars. All who fit
the description are welcome to audition! Regards, Tony Emmons Jason

Airport Ride The esteemed
Airport Ride will start on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 10:00 am at the
Trinity Lofts on Peachtree St. This is a serious training ride for
racers and very experienced cyclists. Expect a pace of 25+ mph.
There are no sag stops, no maps, and you will be dropped!
Map.
Winter Pizza Ride From Mark Linenberg: The first Winter Pizza
ride will start on Thursday November 11 @ 6:00 PM. We will meet at
the same location we currently meet for the Thursday Pizza ride. Use
your discretion about the very cold/windy/wet days. The ride is a
winter pace (i.e. moderate) to and from Stone Mountain Park. While
in the park, we will do 2 small counterclockwise loops (9.6 miles in
the park). The pace has been historically (and should remain)
between 22 mph and 23.5 mph in the Park- mainly a steady rotating
paceline (you don't have to be in the paceline, if you don't want to
be). If you want to attack, drop the group, etc., this ride is not
for you. Should you want to sprint on the final lap- no attacking
the paceline until the base of auto museum hill (last hill of the
final loop). Stone Mountain Park Police will not let you ride in the
Park after dusk- unless you have some type of front and rear light!
Winter Pizza ends March 10, 2011.
Other Rides-
Tucker- goes to 10:00AM November 13. Tucker ride resumes at 9:00AM
April 2, 2011 (per the much wiser and elder tribal leaders)
Airport Ride- starts 10:00 AM Sunday, November 7 - meet at Trinity
Loft area off of Peachtree

by no one and affiliated with no organization, group, business,

10-30-2010 Cyclists Needed for Study Volunteers needed for
motor control research using cycling at Georgia Tech.
This study uses cycling to study how the nervous system controls the
legs in people with and without an amputation. Knowledge gained from
this study will be used to better understand the fundamental changes
underlying differences between those with and without amputation.
This feeds right back into developing better prostheses and
rehabilitation methods.
We are currently recruiting volunteers with intact limbs i.e.
able-bodied or people without an amputation. The study will take
about 3-4 hours total. In that time, you’ll pedal a stationary
bicycle for about 30 minutes at power outputs around 150 watts and
cadences between 60 – 120 rpm.
The intact cyclists we’re recruiting are being matched to an amputee
volunteer. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers that have
certain characteristics. If you are interested and fit into the
characteristics below, please contact Lee Childers at lee@gatech.edu
for more information. Please include your contact information as
well as age, height, weight, cycling experience, and shoe size.
Intact subject characteristics
#1 – A male, well trained, competitive triathlete that cycles at
least 6 hrs/wk and runs or swims at least 15 hrs/wk. Height between
5’10” and 6’2”, weight between 150-175 lbs, and age between 20 – 44.
#2– A male, competitive triathlete that cycles at least 8 hrs/wk and
runs or swims at least 15 hrs/wk. Height between 6’2” and 6’8”,
