8-23-2011 NC CX Clinic National Champion to Lead Cycling Clinics in Boone Ashley James to host Cyclocross Clinics Sunday, September 11, 10AM-4PM at the Boone Fairgrounds
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Andrew Stackhouse August 22, 2011 &nb sp; (828) 719-8448

Pirate Race Productions and Boone Bike and Touring are excited to announce that two-time national champion Ashley James, will be leading cyclocross clinics in Boone on Sunday, September 11. With two national championships under her belt, and a stint racing in Europe this summer with the U.S. National Team, Ashley hopes to share her experience, passion, and success with clinic participants. The separate men’s and women’s clinics are designed to appeal to everyone from raw beginners to seasoned vets who are interested in improving their skills, knowledge, and confidence. The clinics will be held at the Boone Fairgrounds, home of the Alray Tire of Boone Cyclocross Series. The cost of the clinic is only $40 if you register before September 1 and includes lunch catered by Black Cat Burrito.

Cyclocross is the fastest growing and most impressive spectacle in the cycling world. Racers do multiple laps of a short course consisting of a mix of pavement, grass, sand, and dirt. Each lap, racers have to jump off their bikes and carry them over small hurdles, up stairs, or through mud pits. Cyclocross races are renowned for being more like a party than a competition, with lots of cheering, music, and camaraderie. Participants and fans are renowned for wearing costumes while laughing their way around the muddy, obstacle strewn courses. A family-friendly atmosphere and 30 minute long beginner races makes cyclocross ideal for people interested in trying bike racing for the first time.

Ashley will be joined by some of the top racers in the region, including Tennessee champion Kim Bishop, who led the 2010 women’s clinic, and a fellow member of the Appalachian State national champion team, Ph.D. student Jacob Florence. With multiple coaches for both the Women’s Only and Men’s clinics, and registration capped at 30 participants each, everyone will receive personalized attention.

For more information, directions, and registration information, go to http://www.highcountrycx.com/clinic,  sign up online at BikeReg.com, check out the Event on Facebook, or contact us at info@pirateraceproductions.com

8-25-2011 Dog in Bartow County This was from a mailing list I'm on: "Most of you know I was thrown from my bike and severely broke my femur on Aug. 6 when a dog came at my bike head-on and knocked me off (sadly, a teammate fractured his collarbone, as well). We were on the 56 mile loop from the Bud Plant; specifically, near 171-184 Cagle Road, which is around Mile 12 on the route. Two of my teammates were out there today in a car and were able to capture pictures of the dogs. The black/brindled one lives at 184 Cagle and the hound at 171 Cagle.

I am sending these because these dogs are loose and dangerous - they actually charged the car! Despite leash laws, it is clear the owners give little care to the dangers they present to cyclists. PLEASE share this information with other cyclists who might be up there, so they will be careful on Cagle Road! Also, Bartow County has a leash law - if you see these or any dogs loose, do not hesitate to contact Animal Control and they guarantee follow-up."

8-29-2011 Atlanta Morning CX Practice From Loose Nuts Cycles: Just wanted to let everyone know who is interested that a few friends and I have started a morning CX practice ride/super informal race series in Grant Park, Atlanta. We are currently meeting up at Loose Nuts Cycles (452-A Cherokee Ave, Atlanta, GA 30312) Tuesdays and Thursdays at 730am (roll out at 735) for about an hour of high intensity training. Fridays, if enough interest plays out, we will have an informal race series that will result in someone winning beers. Or whiskey. Or maybe a tire or something.
Just wanted to throw out the opportunity to practice with a group of people who are pumped to race but not necessarily Pro 1/2 racers.

"Cyclocross in Georgia has grown exponentially since it's inception in 2000, probably because this series organization delivers top-notch events while keeping the "fun factor" high. The 2011 Georgia Cyclocross Series begins in October and runs through December featuring the best 'cross courses, exciting venues and all levels of competition. The twelve race series encompasses all of Georgia from the mountains in Dalton to the Savannah coast."

A new venue will be Centennial High School in Roswell. Favorites returning include Olmstead Park, OSP, Ft. Yargo, the Georgia International Horse Park, Elks-Aidmore, Jim Miller Park, Sandy Beach Park, and Serenbe. Prizes will be awarded for the overall winners in each division in the series. The 2011 Georgia State Cyclocross Championships will be held at Ft. Yargo in Dec. 4. The course at Ft. Yargo has been a racer favorite since it was first included in the series.
