Masters Nationals I heard through the grapevine (called Facebook) that Brendan Sullivan and Tim Gotsick both of Iron Data Racing placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in their divisions today in the TT at Masters Nationals in Bend, OR. Have some news you want me to post? Email sttarlite@hotmail.com.

9-10-2012 DLV The Madison I went to the Dick Lane Velodrome on Saturday night to photograph the Madison! The weather was great, the crowd was huge, and the racing was exciting! The Madison hang slings were impressive! Photos by Trish Albert/Southeasterncycling.com. Please do not copy or use without permission.

Tumbling Creek Work Party From SORBA Gainesville "Get a close up view of the Tumbling Creek race course trails by volunteering for a pre-race work party. The objective is to get these trails race ready! Meet at the Sorba trailer at the trailhead near the police/security building across from the parking deck. We need lots of volunteers for this one! Racing This Weekend There is not much racing around Georgia this weekend. The NC/SC Track Championship  are happening at the new Girodana Velodrome in Rock Hill, SC. Pisgah Monster Cross will keep the gravel grinders busy.

More Masters National Championships   Brendan Sullivan (Iron Data) needs to make more room in his trophy case. He won the Master Men 45-49 Road Race. Marianne Holt of NC (Pain Pathways) was 4th in the Women's 55-59 TT. Durward Higgins (Scenic City Velo) won the Men's 70-74 TT. Congratulations!! Trish's Note: In looking at the results, it does not look like many Georgians and very few from the Southeast made the trek to Bend, OR for Masters Nats. Marianne also placed 2nd in the Women's 55-59 crit. Ann Koehler (Modry/Evergreen Parnters) from Charlotte, NC took 3rd in the Women's 35-39 crit.

Horse Event at Bull Mountain From the Dave Muse: "The Chattahooche Trail Horse Association (CTHA) is having their annual Poker Run ride/fund-raiser at Bull/Jake on the 29th of September. Technically the trails are still open but it would be very courteous of the mountain bikers among us to let them have the trails to themselves. At very least please avoid parking in the Jake Lot on that day. As I'm sure most of the folks in this group know, the CTHA are great people and they have been largely responsible for the trail maintenance up that way for years and years. Lets help make their event go well. Speaking of which, if anyone wants to help out or volunteer, please contact susanbruno@windstream.net" Trish's Note: The CTHA recognizes several mountain bike events during the year and asks their members to be courteous to mtbers those days or stay off the trails. Let's extend the same courtesy!

9-12-2012 Outback Rides The rides from Outback Bikes in Little 5 Points will follow the schedule of the other Eastside Rides. See the Fall 2012 section on the Atlanta Road Rides page.

9-14-2012 SRS is Coming! The Southeastern Race Series is coming in 2013. More details soon....http://www.srs-racing.com/

GABRA Meeting From GABRA: "The 2012 GBRA Annual meeting will be held at Our Way Cafe in Decatur on Saturday October 6th from 5pm. The meeting is expected to last a few hours and will include voting on the new 2013 board members and planning for the 2013 road racing season. It will also be an opportunity to meet your new board members and get an idea of the 2013 season plans. One Way Cafe: 2831 E College Ave Decatur, GA"

Team Profiles With the help of SRS Racing, Southeastern Cycling will be posting some team profiles from throughout the Southeast. Want your team profiled? Email me at sttarlite@hotmail.com, and I will contact SRS Racing. This week's team is 36th Street Racing from Charlotte, NC. Photo and interview courtesy of SRS Racing.

The next team on our radar for the Regional Racing Campaign is 36th Street Racing. The team, based out of Charlotte, North Carolina is sponsored by the hot spot bicycle shop, Uptown Cycles owned by Robin Farina & Chris Sheehan. We asked 36th Street Racing’s Team Director, Shawn Moseley a few questions about the team and the direction for the 2013 season.

We asked how he stays motivated to direct the team…?
“I'm told I have control issues. Kidding aside, the team keeps me going. I think we all look out for each other, on the bike and off. It's great when we see new faces show up on our group rides. But the real thrill is when they come back, and get comfortable enough to offer their own assistance. If we can manage to do that while still placing folks on the podium all season, that is icing on the cake.”

We agree one of the coolest things about growing the group rides is to watch people progress over the years to become great cyclists. We went on to ask him about whats in store for 2013.

What are the team goals and key events for the upcoming year?
I'm thrilled to see the launch of the SRS in 2013. It's an idea that has been long in the making, and we hope to see 36th Street Racing take part in a big way. We'll also focus on the 2nd edition of the Noda Grand Prix here in Charlotte. It's not only our home race, but we have a Cat 4 title to defend. (nodagrandprix.org)

One of our key reasons for SRS is to grow the numbers of racers in the amateur categories in the region. Defend you title at Noda Grand Prix, then get over to the SRS and race for the championship!

Why regional classic races need more support in the region?
It's wonderful to see the UCI level events: Tour of California, Tour of Utah & USA Pro Challenge garner so much attention, but regional racing is the heart and foundation of the domestic scene. As the co-founder of a first year event (Noda Grand Prix) I can tell you all about the challenges facing promoters, and securing sponsor dollars is just the beginning. I would like to see races begin to share and support each other. Explain how to navigate City permits, sharing of resources like hay bales and fencing. Supporting each other on social media and the web, and like the SRS, tie the races together geographically. I'd also love to see a few more "classics" like Battenkill and Boone Roubaix take place here in the Southeast.

We would love to share! Let us know how we can help ;)

Last, we asked if there is anything specific you want us to know about your team?
All of our group rides seem to end at a local bar.

9-24-2014 Racing This Weekend This weekend the Single Speeders get to take part in the Georgia State Single Speed Championships at Payne's Creek Park on Lake Hartwell. It's one of the best courses for SSing out there--very fast and flowy. The Six Gap Criterium is one last crit for the roadies this year. Sunday will be the Six Gap Century. While not a race, many try to see if they can break the course record of riding all Six Gaps-Neels, Jacks, Unicoi, Hogpen, Wolfpen, and Woodys. (For the record, I have done the Six Gap Century once, so I know everyone's pain.)

Brewery News This is from an email I received today: "DO NOT LEAD OR START A RIDE FROM THE BREWERY BEFORE 8AM. Please pass on to other groups to which you are associated; tri groups, NARC, MS, TNT, etc. From the Brewery: "The receptionist for the Brewery has been getting numerous calls on the Wednesday riders referring to them as "your bike riders". The complaints come when the riders leave the brewery before 8:00. When they do this they block school traffic for Cass High school. Buses have been getting backed up and caused people to be late for school. If they could wait until after 8:00 to leave it would help a lot."

Peachtree Bikes Rides From PTB: "Heads up! With the days getting shorter, all rides out of Peachtree Bikes are switching over to self-led rides. Coordinate with other riders to meet at a time when you know you can get back before dark (or bring lights). No more ride leaders! We'll pick back up on the shop-led rides in the spring." The Sunday 9:00 am ride will go year round!

9-26-2012 Allatoona Trails From SORBA: "Just a quick reminder that Allatoona Creek does NOT open until 10 AM, 7 days a week, from now through 10/31 to allow for hunting. Furthermore the trails will be closed completely for the months of November and December. The trails reopen 1/1/13. There have been some riders pretending to not see the hour signage and there is concern that this abuse could lead to a negative view of MTB riders in the eyes of Cobb government officials. Please honor the restrictions and pass word of them on to you friends. The hunting access is part of the agreement that Cobb County has with the Corp Of Engineers on the lease of this property. Cobb Parks and Recreations and particularly Cobb Land Manager John Purcell have been instrumental in the rapid development of this trail system. So we in the MTB community need to pay them back with good citizenship and assure future cooperation through playing by the rules.
FYI - Allatoona has recently been awarded a significant grant from REI for continued trail expansion so stay tuned for some serious trail building efforts in 2013."

Last Roswell Ride From Bike Roswell: As Tradition goes we ride until the last Thursday in September due to light conditions. All will start at 6PM and separate by pain into smaller groups. If you don’t make the stop sign at the fire station on Lake Charles and Jones by 7PM then turn right and ride 20 miles. It will be near dark by your return so please bring lights to be safe. We suggest you ride with a buddy. If you don’t have a buddy, then using the words of Woody from Toy Story, “Get One!” Come join us in Roswell, the first bicycle friendly community in Georgia.
Beautiful flats along the Chattahoochee coupled with spectacular homes along climbs that can challenge the best rider. We even ride past Chipper Jones’ house/neighborhood.

Three groups to choose from; 6:00 PM from Riverside Park, 575 Riverside Road, Roswell, GA 30075
A Group 20-23 mph average – 25 miles 6:00 Sharp
B Group 18-21 mph average – 20 or 25 miles 6:00 departure
C Group 16-18 mph average – 20 or 25 miles no drop 6:00 Rolloff

Average means that is what your computer will say is average when you return. If you average 18 then you spent 50% over 18 and 50% below 18 mph. Be ready to go hard that’s why you are coming to ride with the group is to get motivation and someone to share your pain with. Then you live longer and are happier the rest of the week and weekend.
