Effective the week of 04/01/13, the Sandy Springs, Peachtree Battle and Chastain
rides will start at 06:30 PM EDT. This is the week that restrictor plates will
be removed from all bikes. Therein, “Show Me What You’ve Got Night” on the Sandy

Option prior to this date. This distinction will also readily be awarded to the
usual suspect(s) who persist to screw-up the Chastain ride.
Please note that cyclists are coming under increased scrutiny as vehicle density
continues to grow unabated. Use good judgment and always obey the law at all
times, but especially when riding in a group. Above all, be safe.
Also, note that the Tucker Ride will remain at its Winter start time of 10:00 AM

Roswell Thursday Night Ride From Bike Roswell
We will re-start the Roswell Thursday Night Ride March 21 at 6:00
Sharp, the second Thursday after the time change. This is to allow a
few more important minutes of sunlight.
Come join us in Roswell, the first bicycle friendly community in
Georgia. Beautiful flats along the Chattahoochee coupled with
spectacular homes along climbs that can challenge the best rider. We
even ride past Chipper Jones’ house/neighborhood. Three groups to
choose from; 6:30 PM from Riverside Park, 575 Riverside Road,
Roswell, GA 30075.
When we start at 6PM we all start at once since the numbers are down
and the sun is low.
A Group 20-23 mph average – 25 miles 6:00 Sharp
B Group 18-21 mph average – 20 or 25 miles 6:00 departure
C Group 16-18 mph average – 20 or 25 miles no drop 6:00 Roll off
D Group 12 mph average - 12 miles partial paved trail, partial road
– Eric Broadwell to lead
Average means that is what your computer will say is average when
you return. If you average 18 then you spent 50% over 18 and 50%
below 18 mph. Be ready to go hard that’s why you are coming to ride
with the group is to get motivation and someone to share your pain
with. Then you live longer and are happier the rest of the week and
weekend. Our goal is to have a safe, friendly and challenging ride
for all.
• We support those with mechanical problems and flats. B, C & D
groups
• We do not use Aero Bars unless riding in the rear or front of the
pack.
• We do not use ear phones or ear plugs.
• We obey traffic rules and try at all times to be courteous to
motorist.
• We always wear helmets.
This communication is merely a way of notifying those interested in
our Thursday Night ride. It does not reflect any responsibility for
the care or safety of those participating. All riders, ride at their
own risk.
Sope Creek Trails
From the National Park Service Sandy Springs: The final version
of a new regulation allowing bicyclists on newly designated
multi-use trails at Sope Creek in the Chattahoochee River National
Recreation Area (CRNRA) has been published in the Federal Register.
According to the new regulation, 6.7 miles of trail arranged in a
loop-style system will be open to bikes starting Friday, April 5,
2013.
"Creating multi-use trails at Sope Creek is the result of years of
planning and discussions with neighbors, hikers, and bicyclists,"
said CRNRA Superintendent Patty Wissinger. "We look forward to
working productively with organized, responsible bicycle groups to
make this new regulation successful for all our trail users."
CRNRA volunteers have already installed new bike gates at trail
intersections where the newly designated multi-use trail meets
trails that will remain pedestrian-only. Additional steps to be
taken before April 5 include posting new regulatory signs and maps.
New site regulations are expected to include one-way travel for
bicycles on alternating days (matching practices at other sites such
as Roswell's Big Creek) and no riding 24 hours after rainstorms. New
trail maps will include bicycle regulations as well as difficulty
indicators. "The newly designated trails at Sope Creek are easy,
beginner trails," Wissinger added. "They work best for leisurely
family rides."
3-9-2013 Reality Bikes Ride
The Reality Bikes Ride
starts March 13. With 4 different groups ranging from beginner to
serious racers there is a group for everyone. It is not uncommon to
have upwards of 100 total riders during prime riding season so this

the group details below for more information on each ride and start
time.
GROUP RIDE DETAILS:

it’s a flat sprint, sometimes it’s on top of the mountain. Either
way it’s a hotly contested event. You’re not just battling for
bragging rights here, there’s something much greater at stake. The
victor each week will be rewarded with a Calzone of their choice
courtesy of our new neighbor Marie’s Italian Deli.

NCC Racing Returns To Alabama For 2013
The Sunny King Criterium, the cornerstone event of the Anniston,
Alabama’s Noble Street Festival, celebrates its 11th anniversary
on Saturday, April 20th. As one of the key stops on the National
Criterium Calendar (NCC), some of the nation’s top men and women
professional cyclists will take part in a day of high-speed
racing that will be streamed live to the world. “It is our
pleasure to again welcome the top pro men and womens teams, as
well as amateur competitors, to Anniston, Alabama.” says race
director Mike Poe. “We are humbled to host an event that has
consistently produced podiums featuring the top athletes in
domestic criterium racing.” Since 2003 the event has anchored an
entire weekend of local food and fun in the recognized cultural
center of northeast Alabama. Along with the Sunny King Criterium,
this year’ Noble Street Festival (http://www.noblestreetfestival.com),
will feature the 12 local eateries participating in the Red
Diamond Restaurant Tour, the family-centric fun of the Scion Kid
Zone and Mellow Mushroom Mad Dash, the YMCA 5K, and plenty of
music courtesy of the Hot Blast Music Café. On Sunday the 21st
more cycling is afoot with both the annual Foothills Classic
Road Race, and the welcome to all comers 21th running of Cheaha
Challenge presented by Wells Fargo Advisors. “The Cheaha
Challange is a gorgeous ride,” said former Tour de France rider
Frankie Andreu. “The rest stops are a lot of fun and I look
forward to riding with everyone this year and doubling the fun I
had last time.” Andreu will also be on hand at the Sunny King
Criterium saying hello to all the cycling fans, and chiming in
on the day’s race commentary. Also returning to the event will
be 2012 Sunny King Criterium Champion Issac Howe of Team
Smartstop presented by Mountain Khakis. “The Sunny King
Criterium was just an incredible experience,” says Howe of last
year’s victory. “That was my first NCC win and it felt like all
the grit and sweat that I had put into my training all winter
made for a huge accomplishment for me personally and for my
team. I still think about it almost daily.” Those sentiments are
echoed by Erica Allar (CARE4Cycling powered by Solomon Corp),
winner of the women’s side of the 2012 event.
I’m excited to go back,” says Allar who last year was also crowned USA
Cycling National Criterium Calendar Champion. “They put on a
great event and they really take care of the women riders. I
think the uphill finish adds a nice technical aspect to the
traditional concept of a four corner crit. (And) they are the
pioneers of online streaming for people at home to watch.”
The Sunny King Criterium was recognized as a Top 10 event in
Alabama by the state's tourism bureau and will once again be
seen online at a number of locations including:

“Streaming all of the action live on-line provides more exposure
for the teams and sponsors,” says Mike Poe. “And fans from
around the world will once again be able to watch our 2013
winners being crowned.” Tune in live from 12-9PM Central to
catch all of the excitement from both amateur racers as well as
top American cycling squads like UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling,
Jamis Hagens Berman p/b Sutter Home, Optum p/b Kelly Benefit
Strategies, Hincapie Sportwear Development, Colavita/Fine
Cooking, and many more. For more information on the Sunny King
Criterium point your web browser to Sunny King Criterium online,
or the Noble Street Festival for details on all of the weekend’s
events.
