March 2019 News

Rides Page Updated!! Are you looking for a group ride in metro Atlanta? The Rides page is updated. There are over 100 rides for all levels of road rider from beginner to racer across the city and suburbs. If you aren’t quite sure about a ride, contact the shop/club/organizer. Most of the rides are DROP rides, so make sure you have a map, course file uploaded to your Garmin/Wahoo, or a buddy that knows where they are going. No drop rides are noted if Ihave that information. A note to newer riders and beginners–please do not show up to a fast ride like Tucker and expect to be shown around/waited on/etc. Find out about the ride you are going to first. I have noted beginner friendly rides where I have that information. There is usually a designated person or ride leader for these rides that will help you out and keep the group together at the advertised speed. I want you to go to a ride that is for your level of riding and have a great experience! Speed demons: If you bring someone to a ride, make sure they get safely back to the car and aren’t 10 miles off of the route trying to get back. I don’t list mountain bike or gravel rides unless they have been around for a long time. MTB and gravel rides tend to come and go frequently and are hard for me to keep up with. Southeastern Cycling does not sponsor or organize any of these rides, so you go at your own risk.

I enjoy doing SE Cycling but don’t have time to chase down every detail for everything that is sent to me. 2-20-2019 Good News about Lost Mountain Trails! From SORBA West Georgia’s Facebook Group “I (sic) received a call from Cobb Commissioner Mike Boyce and he told me that Mountain Biking will be allowed to stay at Lost Mountain. There will be signs put up to share the trail and that we may have to make it directional. He was going into a meeting with Commissioner Keli Gambrill to discuss. He stated that groups that put this much effort into the caring and improving of trails will not lose access. He appreciated all the kind and supportive emails of the trails and the county employees.”

2-19-2019 Cobb County MTB Trails Need Your Help! From IMBA SORBA West Georgia “Friends we need your help again. Many of you already know that there has been some discourse about mountain bike use at Cobb County trails recently, specifically at Allatoona Creek and Lost Mountain Parks. Our access may be threatened at these parks. Unfortunately, we bikers get a bad rap as a user group and the public is not aware of all the volunteer hours that go into maintaining our trails. Your chapter is working hard to raise awareness but we need your help. Please take a second to email your District 1 Commissioner’s office at Keli.gambrill@cobbcounty.org and let them know how important the trails are to you and how important we are to the trails. Keep it positive and and to the point. We also need to have another positive showing at the next parks planning meeting on March 4th. More details will follow.”

Trish’s Note: If you are in Cobb County, cc your elected official and Commissioner Mike Boyce mike.boyce@cobbcounty.org. Find them here.
