Georgia Criteria Season

From the East Point Track Club
It’s just about Criterium season! The East Point Track Club has you covered this spring with five incredible options we’ve partnered with to help put on. There will be three brand-new races and two “old and comfortable hats” that we hope you still love as much as we do.

Newnan Criterium Rock & Roll Criterium – April 15th
First up, EPTC has partnered with Bike Coweta and the City of Newnan for this spectacular crit course, and they’re going all out to make this first-year event absolutely jaw-dropping. Seriously! They may have even included a kitchen sink. Please put this event on your radar. This race will be a true Downtown Criterium, racing around the courthouse with two long straightaways, falling down and then back up with four fast corners. You’ll fly past the start finish on one side and listen to live music on the backstretch. If you’re not excited about this event, you should be, seriously! Let’s say seriously one more time, just because we’re so excited. The Criterium is part of a full line-up of events, which can be found on the Bike Coweta website.

Thanks to the ATL Airport District, this will be Spin the District’s 5th year as part of Speed Week, and we’ve made a few significant changes that keep upping the anty on Speed Week. So keep reading, or since it’s Spin, and you already know it’s fantasmagical!

Union City Criterium – April 25
Welcome, Union City, to the Criterium scene, with a scorching flat, three-corner, mid-week, twilight Crit. You’ll be going from zero to Mach One over and over again. (Ok, not zero, and not Mach One, but the course is a power rider’s dream.) We’re throwing a Disco Block Party with music, food trucks, and games to keep the energy high. (Luckily, you’ll have Wednesday off from racing, so you can kick back a little with a few Arches – Spin All Day Lagers)

Hapeville Criterium – April 29
We moved Hapeville back to last weekend to keep the party on the Southside all weekend. The day will feature the same fast, technical, six-ish corner crit course as before, just with more party thrown in to make you want to go that much faster! We have tweaked the schedule a touch, so make sure to look at the times.

College Park Criterium – April 30
Like in past years, Speed Week will be crowning the king and queen of the south racing scene with the College Park Criterium. It will be the same five-corner course, with a rip-roaring downhill and grueling uphill finish. And, like Hapeville, the only big change will be the party. This year, we’re throwing a Bayou Block Party with a crawfish boil to entice more spectators. In addition, we’ll have food trucks if mudbugs aren’t your jam, an artist market/bike expo, music, games, and more.

Peachtree Corners
Curiosity Lab Criterium – April 26
New to Speed Week, we’ve been working to develop this new twilight crit that will be pretty unique. Peachtree Corners and Curiosity Lab are going all in and will feature an array of innovative technologies currently being deployed to help protect vulnerable road users (VRUs). This event will also showcase the VRU safety technology of tomorrow. The course is a 1.2-mile dumbbell finishing in front of Peachtree Corners City Hall.

It’s quiet on The SE Cycling Front

It’s been quiet around here the last week. Really quiet for news! I’ve been working on updating all of the calendars behind the scenes. I hope everyone was able to make it to the Bearings Bike Works swap meet on Saturday! I wish I could have been there, but I had a prior obligation. I heard that the Border Wars Gravel Event was really muddy since it rained out past Roopville, GA much of the day. It’s a great event if you like to gravel ride, check it out next year! Atlantan Aisha McGowen Back To Racing in the Women’s World Tour

Velonews.com
Ayesha McGowan finally achieved her dream last year by earning a WorldTour contract with Liv Racing Xstra, but it came to an abrupt stop less than two months in.

McGowan suffered from digestion issues for more than five years, but it came to a head early last year when she was struggling to eat what she needed to sustain herself.

Just six races, five of which had ended with DNFs, into her season, the 35-year-old had to pull the plug on her program.

After undergoing medical tests, McGowan was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, and underwent surgery in June. Now fully recovered and with another yearlong contract on the table with the team, which is now called Liv Racing TeqFind, she is raring to go.

“I’m really excited. I just want to get going. I feel like the past few years, I’ve had these huge training blocks to prepare for things, and then something happened. And so I really want to have a full season this year and finally show myself what I can do,” McGowan told VeloNews.
