Mayor’s Ride and the Hennessy Historic Roswell Criterium benefiting Bike Roswell!, take place on Sunday, April 30. “Over 16 years, the Roswell Cycling Festival has solidified itself as a springtime tradition in Historic Roswell. It brings together people of all ages, on tricycles and bicycles, and provides a platform to introduce our great businesses and restaurants in Roswell to many visitors. Bike Roswell! members have done a great job in not only promoting our city, but promoting safe cycling and family fun,” said Roswell Mayor Jere Wood, who inspired a local bicycle club in 2002 to host the inaugural event.   Roswell Bicycles, which has supported the event every year since 2002, will serve as the presenting sponsor for the weeklong festival. Bike Roswell!, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization promoting safe cycling, manages all events for the festival. It is also the beneficiary of the Mayor’s Ride, which has become the largest fundraiser of the year for Bike Roswell!.

Mayor Wood will lead hundreds of recreational cyclists from Roswell Area Park for the 14th annual Bike Roswell! Mayor’s Ride this year. This fully-supported event offers ride routes of six miles to 64 miles for people of all ages and abilities. Early registration is available through March 31 and ranges from $10 to $35. The standard registration fee for 18, 42 and 64-mile routes will be $45 through April 29, and $55 day-of rides. T-shirts will be provided to the first 500 pre-registered riders for the 18, 42 and 64-mile routes. All Mayor’s Ride Participants will receive new “Wheel of a Deal” coupons in ride packets, which provides discounts at 10 local restaurants. This is a fully-supported event with multiple rest stops stocked with drinks and snacks. Rambling Rose Tours will be providing the main SAG for the Mayor’s Ride, and will make a final sweep of all rest stops to make sure all participants complete the ride.

Hennessy Jaguar – Land Rover North Point will return as the presenting sponsor for the criterium. 2-17-2017 XCI World Cup Press Release The UCI revives the Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce the return of mountain bike cross-country Eliminator (XCE) to the highest level with the launch of a new UCI World Cup in 2017. All the rounds will be characterised by city-centre competitions. The series is made possible thanks to the UCI’s partnership with City Mountainbike, organisers specialised in the staging of XCE events in urban settings. XCE, present since 2015 at national and continental level and at the UCI World Championships, will set out to conquer city centres throughout the six-month season. From May in Volterra (Italy) to October in Beirut (Lebanon), the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup will visit eight cities in seven countries from three continents.  line with the strategy to develop women’s cycling implemented by the UCI since the election of Brian Cookson in 2013, the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup will offer equal prize money for men and women. The weekend will feature two days of amateur and professional bicycle racing, called the Alabama Cycling Classic. The 15th annual Sunny King Criterium will be held alongside the Noble Street Festival on Saturday, and the McClellan Road Race will be held on Sunday. This is the only professional cycling event in Alabama that is part of USA Cycling’s Professional Road Tour.

“The Sunny King Criterium is know nationwide as the ‘king of all crits’, for the incredible southern hospitality and huge community support. The addition of a second day of racing and designation as a Pro Road Tour weekend has helped attract the best male and female athletes for top-level racing. This event continues as the ‘king’, thanks to the support from longtime sponsors Sunny King Automotive, and services from the City of Anniston and Calhoun County,” added Marilyn Cullinane, who returns as race director for a fourth year. Her event management company, Start Smart Cycling, operates both races for the Alabama Cycling Classic. The Alabama Cycling Classic kicks off April 8 with 21 categorized races for a variety of age groups and skill levels, from a one-lap youth contest (ages 3-8) to one-hour races for professional women and men. Host Housing for Tour of the Southern Highlands From Tour of the Southern Highlands: Host an athlete or team. Standing behind the fences and at the sidelines, most spectators come within an arm’s length of the racers at the Tour of the Southern Highlands. Host families, who house the racers and the team support personnel, get even closer. While the level of interaction varies from house to house (some hosts prepare dinner for the riders, others simply offer up their spare room), the riders and the host families always enjoy some quality time together. Many of the host families even come to think of their guests as “their” racers. Host housing helps because it brings more racers to our event. You will be asked to provide: A comfortable place to sleep – bed or airbed, Bathroom and shower, Use of the kitchen and storage for food, Use of the washer and dryer, A safe place to store the racer(s)’ bikes It’s especially convenient for racers to be housed near their teammates and team support staff.  If you have any neighbors that might be interested in this wonderful experience, please encourage them to contact us as well. Contact our team to learn about volunteer/host needs for upcoming events or to get on our volunteer/host call list.
