Browns Mill Trail Closed
The trails at Browns Mill Park will be closed Friday, Nov. 5th at 4 pm and will reopen at sunrise on Sunday, Nov. 8. The park will be hosting the Mental Health Ultramarathon.

Speaking of that if any photographer allows you to use their photos from Georgia Cyclocross or any other race please give them credit and tag them! Lately some of the other pros and I have seen our photos used with no credit. All is takes is 📸 by @sadlebred. Not sure of their Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, etc, at least put 📸 by Their Name.–even if you paid for the photo. That’s a courtesy most photographers expect. Photos your kid, mom, or Uncle Horatio shot or someone took with your phone are exempt. ALSO commercial uses are usually prohibited unless you’ve asked the photographer. While each photog includes something different it usually includes one of your sponsors promoting their product like “Jane Racer says our products provide her with the energy to keep going” not a repost of a photo from Jane’s social media feed with “Go Jane! Congratulations!” The first would require a release and compensation for the photographer. Please check with the person that took the photo.

Celebration of Life for Bernie Lacourciere
Beloved friend to many–cyclist Bernie Lacourciere passed away earlier this week from injuries sustained in a single bike crash (no further details have been released). He was surrounded by family, friends, and love when he passed. All are welcome to his Celebration of Life on Saturday. Ride your bike to Don White Park. There are lots on Holcomb Bridge Road near Publix and Skyzone to park in. Park away from the businesses at the back of the lots, so patrons can park nearer the shopping plaza tenants. Please keep his loved ones and friends in your thoughts, hearts, and prayers during this time.

Airport Ride
It’s back! THE winter training ride in Atlanta. The Airport Ride. Sundays 10am EST Peters Street in downtown Atlanta (Castlebury Hills). 58 mile long, 40ish mile short. Trish’s Notes: This is a race pace ride with a 22+ mph pace for VERY experienced road riders and racers. This is not a ride for casual, beginner, or intermediate riders. Have the course on your GPS as you are most likely to get dropped your first few rides. No stops to wait on everyone. No snack stops. Just one long sufferfest!

Introducing Veloboros at Phinizy Swamp. The Ouroboros is an ancient Greek symbol of a serpent eating its own tail. It is a symbol of the endless cycle of renewal. n. Welcome to Veloboros at Phinizy Swamp, a brand-new gravel cycling experience coming to Augusta, Georgia on May 1, 2027. What better place to experience the endless cycle than in an honest-to-goodness swamp? There are alligators, wildlife, and plenty of questionable decisions to be made. We’re not going to hold you to traditional race distances. Instead, you can see how many laps of the swamp you can complete.

Choose your adventure: each one with a little more…souciant of the Snake Eating Its Tail. 3-Hour Veloboros – Usual Gravel Roll Short Course 5-Hour Veloboros – Usual Gravel Roll Intermediate Course 7-Hour Veloboros – Usual Gravel Roll Long Course Each lap is about 6.5 miles of 100% unpaved, traffic-free riding through Phinizy Swamp. Ride as many laps as you can as a solo rider or put together a team of up to six riders to complete as many laps as possible in a relay fashion. Whether you are trying to win the race or just trying to finish the event, there is a place for you in the swamp. At the heart of Veloboros is our central Party Village, where every lap begins and ends. This being the very first year we are going to limit registration to 150 riders for year one. We want to make sure how many folks we can really have a good time with in the swamp.

Trish’s Interpretation: It’s a 3, 5, or 7 hour gravel bike ride (race? Not sure on that) on a closed course through a cool and unique venue.

Big Ring Challenge and Women’s Welcome Weekend

We’ve been on the road for the XTERRA World Champs in Ruidoso, NM, and there’s plenty to catch you up on before we head to Jackrabbit for Big Ring Challenge on Saturday, October 31. Fall colors, fast and flowy trails, and a Halloween race weekend by Lake Chatuge—there’s a lot to look forward to. Wednesday, October 21, is the T-shirt deadline. If a Big Ring shirt belongs in your collection, get registered before the deadline so we can include you in the order.

Women’s Welcome Weekend: Bring a friend. Find your people. We’re making it easier for women to give Chainbuster racing a try: First-time female Chainbuster racers race free. Returning female Chainbuster racers receive 50% off. Your first race doesn’t have to be a solo adventure. Back to one of the originals Big Ring started in 2009, and we’re celebrating its 17th year with the trails that keep bringing riders back. It’s also Race #2 of the Southeastern Endurance Series—another chance to add points toward your season. Remember, you need five races to qualify for the series.

Update on the Case Against the Driver Who Killed Carlos Moreno

The driver pled guilty to 12 charges including Homicide by Vehicle in the 1st Degree. On Sept 9, 2026 he was given the maximum sentence possible for the charges – 15 years with 10 years to serve in prison. He now decided that he doesn’t like the consequences for his actions and through his lawyer filed a Motion to Withdraw his Guilty Plea. The prosecutor representing the State of GA is opposing this motion and filed a motion to dismiss it. However, a hearing has been set for it on November 12, 2026. We may ask for in person support from the cycling community at the courtroom. Your presence made an enormous difference during the sentencing hearing. But for today keep Carlos’s children in your heart and ride some miles for Carlos. #justiceforcarlosmoreno

New Date in 2027 for Opelika Okey Dokey

Rob here, and we are excited to announce our 2027 Gravel Roll season dates over the next few weeks. We are shaking up our season dates, structure and in some cases formats to create the Super Serious Good Times you all have come to know from us. We have two brand new host towns for 2027, including a new format and bringing back an OG Gravel Ride and adding our timed-segment format to it. First, we will announce the biggest stop on the Gravel Roll. With a brand new date, we are excited to announce the Opelika Okey Dokey Weekend October 1 through 3rd, of 2027.

We’ll have activities on Friday and on, Saturday in addition to the Okey Dokey, we will conclude with our season finale party, something we have wanted to do for years. Ezra Caudell Out of Hospital

“US rider Ezra Caudell has been discharged from the hospital, 31 days after a crash at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic on August 30 left him in critical condition, Modern Adventure Pro Cycling confirmed this week.

In a press release from the team, they detailed how Caudell had “already made tremendous strides – both literally and figuratively – toward recovery” during his time in the hospital, and will begin the next steps back at home.

“Ezra Caudell was officially discharged from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital late last week, 31 days after his traumatic accident at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic,” read the statement from the US ProTeam.

“He will now begin an intensive phase of inpatient rehabilitation at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, followed by planned outpatient rehabilitation in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.” Read the full article.

Southeast Gravel has postedponed the Carolina Reaper’s Revenge to Oct. 24. The Quick 6 Enduro in Roswell, GA has changed the race format, cancelled Saturday’s Jump Jam, and made some other event modifications. Entrants should have received an email. Topview Sports has postponed the State of Gravel in Cleveland, GA to Nov. 7. Allatoona Trail Ambassadors Work Party is postponed until Nov. 14.

Hey Silver Comet E-Bikers
Hey Ebike* riders–SlowTHeck down! Tonight about 5 miles from Mavell Rd. I had a man and woman on Class 3 ebikes in turbo pass me flying by at 28 mph. After the crossing at Hurt Rd. I was in front of them. There were several groups of walkers going our direction and coming towards us. I slowed down because it was not safe to pass the walkers in front of me. The guy said something to me about not stopping, got mad at me, and then proceeded to fly around me, those walkers, and in between all of the groups of walkers for the next 4 miles. He and the other rider forced at least two of them off of the trail as they passed in and out recklessly at 28 mph and nearly hit several more.. I followed them at a safe distance but always in sight. (Yes, I slowed down a BUNCH of times and said “passing” or “on your left.”)

There is absolutely no reason you need to go 28 mph through traffic on the Silver Comet? Want to do it? Great! Go out past mile 9-10 where there is no traffic. I like going fast, too. I routinely out ride my assist. Or go for a ride on the road.

You are 1. Going to tick off every other trail user.

Cause an accident and get hurt yourself.
Cause an accident and hit someone, hurting them. Possibly seriously. YOU will be at fault, and it will hit your auto insurance if the other person files a claim against you.
Hurt a kid? Really? You want a kid to get hurt?

So just Slow The Heck down! (Yes, this should apply to all of us cyclists when we are in an area with foot traffic.)

Allatoona Pitner Road Work Party

Join us October 10th for a humongous work party at Pitner Road Dog Park with support from Bobcat of Atlanta and the NRPA. We’re beautifying Pitner by planting trees, building bike racks, obstacles, and remodeling Kilo and Alpha. This work party is also a Bobcat Day of Service, as they’ve generously donated in order to secure the purchase of several trees and a bunch of Trail Armor to use throughout the park. 9 am-Noon.

ROPE MILL DIRTY DUATHLON AND 3.3 MILE TRAIL RUN – NOVEMBER 7, 2026 – THE MOST FUN YOU’LL HAVE THIS FALL!
The opening bike loop will be 5.5 miles on the Mill Trails, followed by a 3.3 mile trail run on Explorer, and finally a 5.5 mile bike on the Avalanche Trails. The course covers all the trails at Rope Mill Park! Solo, 2 and 3 person beginner/family team categories are available in the duathlon. We will be using traditional mountain bike race categories, as we have done in the past, to help alleviate congestion on the opening bike loop. The run is short enough that those who do not typically run still have plenty of time to start training!

2026 Shirt Design! Tri Blend shirt for all participants as well as event campfire mugs for all. Prizes and awards presented to the top 3 in each duathlon category. Post race snacks and drinks available. We are also offering a separate 3.3 mile trail run on the Explorer Trails at this event for those who would prefer to just participate in a trail run.

BLANKETS CREEK 3 AND 6 HOUR MTB RACE – NOVEMBER 21, 2026
Join us for one last Hootenanny before the Holidays! Solo, 2 and 3 person team categories are available in the 6 Hour Race. The 3 Hour Option has a TON of categories for those who wish to ride 3 hours solo, as well as a one and two lap option for junior riders who aren’t ready for a full 3 hour event. Medals and sponsor prizes 3 deep in all categories, podium shirts for all first place finishers. The course will be ridden CLOCKWISE on both Dwelling and VMT.
