Lake Russell Work Day

Lake Russell Work Day, Sat., Sept. 19 8:45am-1pm. It’s been awhile! Time to get back in the woods. We will be working on a short reroute on the Sourwood Trail. An uprooted tree has compromised the trail tread adjacent to Nancytown Creek. The reroute will bypass this compromised section. Hopefully we will complete the reroute in one work day. Please share this with your friends and other Lake Russell Trail users.
All tools will be provided. We will be providing lunch at this work day, so let me know if you are coming. More details on the Facebook invite.
City of Atlanta Ebike Rebate Program

The Atlanta Regional Commission has partnered with the City of Atlanta and Propel ATL to offer an E-Bike Rebate Program designed to provide affordable transportation options for City of Atlanta residents, particularly moderate and low-income individuals. This initiative aims to break down barriers to e-bike ownership, reduce transportation costs, and replace solo car trips to work, the grocery store, and local parks and recreation centers. Applications are open Sept. 8-22. You MUST be a resident of the city of Atlanta.

Trish Albert Steps Down from Georgia Cyclocross Series Board of Directors After More Than 20 Years of Service
ATLANTA, Ga. — After more than 20 years of service, I am stepping down from the Board of Directors of the Georgia Cyclocross Series with immediate effect. It has been an honor to represent Georgia’s cyclocross racers for more than two decades, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community that has meant so much to me.
My involvement began in the early 2000s, when former series directors Shey and Adam asked me to write race reports for the series website. What started as a favor quickly became a tradition: long Sunday evenings after races spent capturing the day’s stories and uploading hundreds of photos.
During my time on the board, I worked to serve as a voice for racers, with a particular commitment to ensuring that women in the sport were heard, represented, and supported.
Although I am stepping away from board responsibilities, I am not stepping away from cyclocross. I look forward to seeing everyone at the races this year because #crossiscoming.

We’ll meet at the main parking lot at Stilesboro road by the County maintenance building and we’ll have lunch and a cold beverage for you after !!
Milligan Vehicular Murders
Keeping everyone updated about the Milligan Cyclist, here are some links. This is a fast moving event, so these are not exhaustive. The bond for kill 2 people is only $300,000. The alleged driver (have to say that for legal reasons) is free tonight. As of earlier today 6 riders remain in the hospital, and one has been released.

Two Milligan Cycling Team Riders Killed in TN

“HAMPTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two Milligan University students are confirmed dead after a crash involving the university’s cycling team in Carter County on Wednesday morning. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reports the crash occurred on Highway 19E in the Hampton area of the county. The crash took place near Simerly Creek Road and involved a car and a group of bicyclists, according to THP.
According to THP, preliminary information indicates that two people have died. The highway patrol stated in a social media post that multiple helicopters and medical personnel were called to the scene. Ballad Health issued a statement around 10:30 a.m. confirming that the incident involved cyclists from Milligan University.
Milligan posted a statement to social media at 12:45 p.m. asking for prayers and identifying the students killed in the crash. According to Milligan, the students killed were sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers. “We are profoundly shocked and saddened to share that members of our cycling team were in an accident involving a vehicle this morning while cycling in Hampton, TN. Sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers were killed in this accident. Multiple other Milligan cyclists were also seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Johnson City Medical Center. There are no words to adequately describe this level of loss. Our prayers are with all those impacted by this tragedy. Please keep the Milligan community in your prayers.”
Ballad Health also confirmed that at least one person was flown to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment, and trauma surgeons were ready to respond. Ballad’s full statement can be read below:
“Ballad Health is deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving Milligan University cyclists who were struck by a vehicle in the Hampton area of Carter County this morning. Our prayers are with the victims, their families and everyone affected by this devastating event. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that two people died at the scene, and others are being treated for injuries. At least one person is being transported by air to Johnson City Medical Center. Trauma surgeons are at Johnson City Medical Center, and our teams are prepared to respond. We are working closely with law enforcement and emergency response partners and will provide additional information as it becomes available.” Ballad Health
Officials from multiple agencies have advised that the road will be closed for several hours in the area, and drivers are asked to avoid it while crews work.”
Cyclist Killed in Birmingham, AL
Stuart Roberts was hit and killed by a motor vehicle near Birmingham, AL in Ironddale this week. He was a long time member of the Birmingham Bicycle Club and an avid rider. Tributes on their Facebook page describe him as kind, funny, exceptional, and generous. My condolences go to his family and friends. At least 4 cyclists have been killed in Alabama this year as reported by WMTV.
