5-17-2018 Alpharetta Roads Closed From Patch.com: “Motorists (and cyclists) traveling through Alpharetta will have two fewer roads to use to reach their destination this summer. That’s because the city will close Rucker Road and a large section of Mayfield Road so that bridges and culverts can be replaced. The closures will begin May 29 and are expected to remain in place until Aug. 5, the city said. Motorists should note that only residents who live within the closure area will be able to access the impacted sections of the road. Rucker Road will be closed from the Alpharetta city limits near Houze Road/S.R. 140 to Wills Road.” Trish’s Note: For cyclists the alternate is Mid-Broadwell Road. This link has a map with the detours. I know some of the Alpharetta groups rides have to reroute their weeknights rides.

Perhaps the most obvious positive is that Cobb County’s government has listed a 3.4-mile Silver Comet Trail extension as part of a list of trail initiatives at CobbTrailPlan.com. The extension would bring the trail inside I-285 and nearly to Moore’s Mill Road in Atlanta.” Read the rest of the article on the CCC site.

4-26-2018 Jackie Crowell It is with great sadness that I pass along Jackie Crowell lost her brave 5 year battle with brain cancer on Wednesday. Jackie was a former professional cyclist with Team Type 1, Exergy-Twenty16, and United Health Care. She spent the last several years in Atlanta as one of the coaches for the Dick Lane Velodrome’s Youth Cycling League and as the coach for the Mission Source Devo Juniors. Jackie was an amazing, positive person that lived every day to its fullest. I had the privilege of knowing her; she will be missed by everyone.

My thoughts and love go out to her family during this time. No public services have been announced. Velonews reports that her husband and family have requested donations to the Dick Lane Velodrome Youth Cycling Program in lieu of flowers.
