Introducing Veloboros at Phinizy Swamp. The Ouroboros is an ancient Greek symbol of a serpent eating its own tail. It is a symbol of the endless cycle of renewal. n. Welcome to Veloboros at Phinizy Swamp, a brand-new gravel cycling experience coming to Augusta, Georgia on May 1, 2027. What better place to experience the endless cycle than in an honest-to-goodness swamp? There are alligators, wildlife, and plenty of questionable decisions to be made. We’re not going to hold you to traditional race distances. Instead, you can see how many laps of the swamp you can complete.

Choose your adventure: each one with a little more…souciant of the Snake Eating Its Tail. 3-Hour Veloboros – Usual Gravel Roll Short Course 5-Hour Veloboros – Usual Gravel Roll Intermediate Course 7-Hour Veloboros – Usual Gravel Roll Long Course Each lap is about 6.5 miles of 100% unpaved, traffic-free riding through Phinizy Swamp. Ride as many laps as you can as a solo rider or put together a team of up to six riders to complete as many laps as possible in a relay fashion. Whether you are trying to win the race or just trying to finish the event, there is a place for you in the swamp. At the heart of Veloboros is our central Party Village, where every lap begins and ends. This being the very first year we are going to limit registration to 150 riders for year one. We want to make sure how many folks we can really have a good time with in the swamp.

Trish’s Interpretation: It’s a 3, 5, or 7 hour gravel bike ride (race? Not sure on that) on a closed course through a cool and unique venue.

Big Ring Challenge and Women’s Welcome Weekend

October has flown by! We’ve been on the road for the XTERRA World Champs in Ruidoso, NM, and there’s plenty to catch you up on before we head to Jackrabbit for Big Ring Challenge on Saturday, October 31. Fall colors, fast and flowy trails, and a Halloween race weekend by Lake Chatuge—there’s a lot to look forward to. Wednesday, October 21, is the T-shirt deadline. If a Big Ring shirt belongs in your collection, get registered before the deadline so we can include you in the order.

Women’s Welcome Weekend: Bring a friend. Find your people. We’re making it easier for women to give Chainbuster racing a try: First-time female Chainbuster racers race free. Returning female Chainbuster racers receive 50% off. Your first race doesn’t have to be a solo adventure. Come with a friend, bring your questions, and enjoy a weekend with people who are happy to help you get started. You don’t have to have everything figured out to join us. Select the Women’s Welcome option within your age group when registering.

Back to one of the originals Big Ring started in 2009, and we’re celebrating its 17th year with the trails that keep bringing riders back. Choose your 3-hour or 6-hour race and settle in for a day of riding at Jackrabbit in Hayesville, North Carolina. It’s also Race #2 of the Southeastern Endurance Series—another chance to add points toward your season. Remember, you need five races to qualify for the series.

Update on the Case Against the Driver Who Killed Carlos Moreno

The driver pled guilty to 12 charges including Homicide by Vehicle in the 1st Degree. On Sept 9, 2026 he was given the maximum sentence possible for the charges – 15 years with 10 years to serve in prison. He now decided that he doesn’t like the consequences for his actions and through his lawyer filed a Motion to Withdraw his Guilty Plea. The prosecutor representing the State of GA is opposing this motion and filed a motion to dismiss it. However, a hearing has been set for it on November 12, 2026. We may ask for in person support from the cycling community at the courtroom. Your presence made an enormous difference during the sentencing hearing. But for today keep Carlos’s children in your heart and ride some miles for Carlos. #justiceforcarlosmoreno
