Terri Palmeri Retires from SORBA

From SORBA and Terri Palmeri
I will retire as Executive Director of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association at the end of 2022. It’s been a long and inspiring journey for the past 18 years with my love of mountain biking. It all started when I accepted an invitation from my future husband, Mike Palmeri on a mountain bike trip to Wales, UK in 2004. I was already an avid road cyclist and I thought “what the heck” how hard can it be to ride a bike in the woods? Three months later, with many cuts, scrapes, and bruises, we joined a group of fellow mountain bikers on a guided mountain bike tour of Wales. I had a wonderful time and was inspired by the local trail systems that our guide commented had changed the fabric of communities and local economies for the better. Bike for Boys & Girls Clubs Ride Cancelled
From the Promoter
We are saddened to announce the cancellation of the 2022 Bike for Boys & Girls Clubs Ride scheduled for this Saturday, October 1st. After several discussions with the Washington County Emergency Management Agency and local officials, we believe canceling this year’s ride is the safest and most prudent thing to do due to expected winds and our heavy reliance on local emergency responders to carry out this event safely. This is with much regret, as much planning, time, and resources have gone into this event to make it both a success for our Washington County Boys & Girls Club and a memorable experience for our riders! We hope you will join us at the 2023 Bike for Boys & Girls Clubs Ride.

If you’re a volunteer and cannot make it, then please let us know ASAP. Also, for the sake of goodwill and participant relations, the Board will offer a refund to any registrant that cannot participate on the 15th. Given the mission of the foundation, we respectfully request you to consider your unused registration fee a donation to the foundation. Break-Ins at MTB Trails

From MTB Gwinnett
Do not leave anything valuable in plain sight in your cars at the park. Harbins Park had 2 cars with windows broken out last Saturday in the middle of the day. This has been going on for years at Yellow River Park for years in playground, bike and equestrian lots. Your best defense is to park away from other cars, leaving a minimum of 2 spots between. These thieves get in between two cars acting like they are getting in or lost their keys, then use a towel to soften the blow. Keep an eye out for your fellow Mountain Biker‘s cars. Trish’s reminder: Always take or hide your purse, laptop, bag, wallet, etc. Always always always take your keys, driver’s license, and phone with you.

Allatoona Creek Park Bow Hunting Season

From Allatoona Creek Park
Bow hunting season begins this Saturday, September 10th, which means that there will be areas of the park specifically reserved for registered hunters only. Check out the map below and note the blue hunting areas. No singletrack trails will be affected by the closures and will remain open (except Fern Gully.) The hunting areas will have signage to watn all users that it is a restricted area. To ensure the safety of everyone, please do not alter signage in anyway. We wish all of our hunting friends a good season. Trish’s Note: About 7-8 years ago when Toona would open around 10 am during hunting season I was in the main parking lot and saw a hunter dragging a deer with him to his truck. My friend and I commented that it must have been a good morning. He said it was and that CrossFit was paying off–dragging the deer was about as bad as flipping a big truck tire like they did at the time in CrossFit.

FREE Wed. Night Spectating at the Dick Lane Velodrome
From Wayne Whitesides & the DLV
Only three more Wednesday night races in the season. Grab your bike if you haven’t raced in a while – there’s quite a few of you I’m thinking about right now! (Trish’s Note: You must be certified to race on the track and at least a “C” racer for Wed. night) Spectators grab your kids, neighbors, friends a cooler and picnic basket and plan for a great night of racing at the Dick Lane Velodrome . It’s FREE to spectate and I know your kids love banging on boards. This week is Wheel race night that includes the crowd favorite Miss-n-Out! I may be mixing up a bunch of cheese metal/glam rock to blast over the PA. So get your 80’s big hair game going, wear your pocket chain, eyeliner and put on those leather pants on. (assuming they still fit) The weather is going to be great. The racing will be fast and the more people we have in the stands the faster they go. #facts. Racing starts at 7:00 and goes until 9:00.

Beautiful Back Roads Century
From the Promoter
On September 17th, the 22nd Beautiful Backroads Century Bicycle Ride (BBC) returns to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery with an even larger after ride party! For the Clubs and Bike Shops north of Atlanta, “the Brewery” provides free parking 51 weeks of the year to Georgia Cyclists often filling the parking lot. How about 1-week a year we give back by supporting Anheuser-Busch by riding in this event for a cause important to them. Hickory Log – a personal care home for men with special needs – is the primary recipient of money raised for this event. The ride starts and finishes at the Anheuser-Busch plant in Cartersville complete with a food, beverage, and music after party.
