$35 to register with a $200 fundraising minimum (all funds go directly to our camper scholarship program which allows children and their families who are likely already experiencing the financial burden of medical needs and life challenges to experience camp and be a kid)
Spin For Kids is Camp Twin Lakes’ annual fundraising bike ride that helps provide life-changing camp experiences for children with serious illnesses, disabilities, or other life challenges. On October 2nd at Camp Twin Lakes Rutledge, our riders’ fundraising efforts culminate in a fun and fulfilling ride that winds through the scenic backroads of beautiful Morgan County, Georgia. Spin For Kids offers multiple routes for riders of all skill levels. Participants can choose from six scenic road routes: 5, 15, 27, 47, 62 or 100 miles – or choose to ride from anywhere in the world, including your home, with our “SFK From Anywhere” option. Along each route, riders enjoy delicious goodies and local fare at our rest stops, while our dedicated team of first aid, route marshals, and bike technicians keeps riders safe.
After crossing the finish line, riders join family and friends in a celebration of their accomplishments including delicious food, beer, live music and a chance to explore Camp. After all, 100% of the funds raised by Spin For Kids riders help Camp Twin Lakes provide life-changing experiences for our campers, and that’s something to celebrate! Over the past 17 years, Spin For Kids has raised over $4 million and sent more than 7,272 kids to camp. Join us as we celebrate 17 years of changing gears to change lives!
Dick Lane Velodrome Certification Class

The late-summer certification session takes place this upcoming weekend, August 27-28 (1-4pm each day). The class is designed to certify new riders for track training and racing. We’ll cover all of the basics. No previous track or fixed gear experience is needed. Bikes are provided. More details can be found here. Beautiful Back Roads Century

On September 17th, the 22nd Beautiful Backroads Century Bicycle Ride (BBC) returns to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery with an even larger after ride party! For the Clubs and Bike Shops north of Atlanta, “the Brewery” provides free parking 51 weeks of the year to Georgia Cyclists often filling the parking lot. How about 1-week a year we give back by supporting Anheuser-Busch by riding in this event for a cause important to them. Hickory Log – a personal care home for men with special needs – is the primary recipient of money raised for this event. The ride starts and finishes at the Anheuser-Busch plant in Cartersville complete with a food, beverage, and music after party.

Fools Gold Volunteers Needed

Volunteers Needed for Fool’s Gold 38/60 Mile Bike Race – September 10th! Earn a Free Entry or 2022/2023 Race Credit – Good at ANY of our events!! We are looking for enthusiastic folks to join our crew for the upcoming Fool’s Gold Bike Race in Dahlonega, GA! We are in need of course marshals, aid station crews, and folks to assist at Montaluce Winery with parking, registration, and lunch/beverage distribution.
Adults who commit to a 6 hour shift for this event can choose ONE of the following:
- Free 2022 Fool’s Gold entry for a friend or spouse -OR-
- Free 2023 Fool’s Gold entry for yourself -OR-
- $100 race credit towards any of our other 2022/2023 events (including running events and team events)
All volunteers also receive a super comfy event shirt, lunch, beer (21 and over) and lots of respect and admiration. Being on course and cheering on our racers is a lot of fun. Aid stations and course marshals are in various locations along the Bull-Jake Mountain Trail System near Dahlonega, GA. Most course marshal spots are solo locations, whereas aid stations have multiple volunteers in the same spot. Second Annual Walk/Ride For the Brave – A charity ride benefiting local veterans in need

Cobb Thanks You For Your Service is holding its second annual Walk For The Brave, with this year’s event including a cycling route! This is a no-drop group charity ride that begins in Glover Park, Marietta Square. Check-in starts at 0800 and the ride gets underway at 0830. The route travels along the Mountain to River Trail route on Kennesaw Avenue to the visitors center at Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park and winds back to the Square for a total of 8.2 miles. The route for this ride is currently posted on Strava. Registration is $22 and includes a commemorative T-Shirt. 100% of the funds raised directly benefit local veterans in need though prepared packages of food and other essential items. Cycling participants are restricted to people aged 18 and older, however several walking routes are offered for families as part of the event. Please see our links below for more information. Marietta Resident Receives Lifetime Ban from USADA

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said on Wednesday that Jackson “Huntley” Nash, of Marietta, Georgia, had received a lifetime ban after an investigation revealed evidence of multiple anti-doping rule violations.
USADA said it started the investigation into the US cyclist after receiving information from a whistleblower in December of 2021.
“This is yet another case that demonstrates the power of investigations in the shared fight to protect sport and athletes’ rights,” USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart said in a statement.

Lake Russell Work Party

There will be a mountain bike trail work party on Saturday, Aug. 13 8:45am-1:00pm. We will be working on replacing a bridge on the Rhododendron Trail. We’ll be moving materials to the site and helping assemble the bridge. The Forest Service will supply all materials and tools required for this project.The Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference championships are being hosted by Piedmont University October 1-2 and a couple of the events will be held at Lake Russell. One event will be held on the Rhododendron Trail and we need to have the bridge replaced prior to that. This is a great opportunity to showcase our community and the potential of our trails at Lake Russell. See full details at the Facebook event page.

Rope Mill 3.3 Mile Trail Run and Dirty Duathlon presented by Northside Hospital – Cherokee – November 12, 2022 at Rope Mill Park in Woodstock, GA!
Join us for our SORBA Woodstock Season Finale at Rope Mill Park! This is everyone’s favorite event where you can race as a solo or on a team. Pair up with your spouse or kids! The opening bike loop will be 5.5 miles on the Mill Trails, followed by a 3.3 mile trail run on Explorer, and finally a 5.5 mile bike on the Avalanche Trails. Solo, 2 and 3 person team categories are available in the duathlon. We will be using traditional mountain bike race categories, as we have done in the past, to help alleviate congestion on the opening bike loop. The run is short enough that those who do not typically run still have plenty of time to start training! All participants receive a super comfy t-shirt and those that register by October 14th also receive a commemorative coffee mug. Prizes and awards presented to the top 3 in each duathlon category. Post race snacks and water available. HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS WHO ONLY WANT TO RUN? We are also offering a separate 3.3 mile trail run on the Explorer Trails at this event for those who would prefer to just participate in a run. Please make plans to join us for this classic fall event as we bring our 2022 season to a close!

Oestreich wins Elite Keirin National Championship
Annalise Oestreich (The Shop Racing) won the Elite Keirin National Championship at the Elite and Juniors National Championships at the Valley Preferred Velodrome in Trexlertown, PA on Saturday. This marks the first Elite National Championship for a rider from the Dick Lane Velodrome in a while (yeah, that’s specific, I know). Annalise has been knocking on the door of an Elite National Championships for several years. She’s known as being a both a good sprinter and a tactician. Leia Genis (The Shop Racing) was on the podium in 3rd for the Elite Women’s Sprints. Congratulations Ladies! Well deserved! Matthew Crabbe (Mission Devo Cycling) was on 4 podiums in the 13-14 age group and 4th in the Omnium.

Chattahoochee Hills Group Ride Problems Please read if you ride in Chatt Hills-gravel or road!

Dear cyclists who ride in Chattahoochee Hills.
Just keeping you up to speed to some grumblings happening down here. If you ride here, chances are you know how great it is and more and more of you are realizing how great it is.
However, that means the locals are getting a little rowdy with said volume of cyclists. Can I please ask a few things that keep coming up. Not all, but some that are very vocal.
- If you’re in a group, please get your group to ride two abreast when possible. Just try it. That’s the law and if we’re following the law, then those who want to complain have nothing to complain about. (I understand that they’re probably not following the law when they pass)
Most roads are not very congested but there are some – Hutcheson Ferry, Tommy Lee Cook, Roscoe Rd (South of Roscoe) that can be a little busy. Let’s try to be on our best behaviour on these roads. - If you’re riding with a buddy or two, please be courteous to the traffic behind you. Please move to single file if you can and when safe, or at least get close to each other. And for some of you maybe start practicing riding closer together. I come across a good number of riders with one on the shoulder and one hugging the yellow line. Yes, technically that is two abreast, but it’s also kind of a dick move.
- Please only ride on public roads. Venturing off into someones private drive or property is a recipe for disaster and gets the dander up on even the most tolerant local. (Trust me I live on one of these private drives and I hear about it a good bit)
- Gravel: just be aware that if you are taking up the road on a bend, a car coming around that bend is not anticipating you.
5.— just added — please be more cautious at stop signs. This is the second biggest complaint. Just because you got through the stop sign before the car did, does not mean your buddies did as well and most likely you just made an enemy from said motorist who uses “they don’t stop at stop signs” as their excuse to get everyone else all worked up.
