10-2-2014 Rides Ended for Season The Reality Bikes and Roswell Bikes rides have ended for the season.

SRS Finale From a press release from SRS: Champions Crowned in September for 5-month, 5-state Southeast Regional Series
More than 450 men, women and juniors participated September 13-14 in Greenville, S.C. in 20 categorized races for the fifth and final weekend for the 2014 Southeast Regional Series presented by Stan’s NoTubes (SRS). Champions were crowned in the summer-long series that spanned five states in five months.  A total of 26 SRS titles were awarded after the conclusion of the Subaru Road Race on Sunday.   Greenville resident Ben Renkema of Stan’s NoTubes powered by Proferrin captured the Hincapie Overall Leaders title in the Men’s Pro 1/2 category. Daniel Zmolik (New York, N.Y.) was second in the season-long overall points competition, 70 points behind his teammate. Third overall was secured by Zach Kratche (Charleston, S.C.) of Ms. Roses p/b J.Brown-Champion System. “It’s really nice to finish in Greenville. My wife and I moved here from Michigan because it’s a cycling town,” said 2014 SRS Men’s Pro1/ 2 champion Renkema, who has led the Hincapie Overall points competition all year since finishing on the podium in the first two races of the year in Albany, Ga. “The Southeast Regional Series is a lot more laid back than other events, like the NCC or NRC series. The events are close enough to home that you can leave Friday after work to race. It’s really good competition all year, for pros and for beginners.”

In the Women’s Pro 1/2/3 category, Amy Floyd (Mobile, Ala.) of Empowerment: Women’s Elite Cycling took home the title as Hincapie Overall Leader and the pink jersey. She scored 94 more points over the five-week series than runner-up Susan Jones-Morgan (Simpsonville, S.C.) of Team Zoom. Grace Chappell (Chapel Hill, N.C.) of Happy Tooth Women’s Racing was third overall. “Albany was really fun, and all the races have been well organized. It has become a very positive experience for me. One thing they do very well is put the women’s (category) fours in their own race. It can be intimidating to start racing with all categories together,” said Floyd, who started racing seriously this winter at age 29 and moved from Cat 4 to Cat 1. She took over the overall lead for both the Hincapie Overall Points and PEZ Cycling News Sprint jerseys after Top 10 finishes at SRS events in both Albany, Ga. and Huntsville, Ala.

Thanks to my sister for filling in, and to my grandson Jackson for helping count five-to-go and ringing the awesome cowbell presented to me as a commemorative trophy by the peloton. Thanks to the kind folks who work there for their patience. Now I am going to tell you that the park has open public roads and is lit at night. Feel free to train there anytime; just acknowledge that without the officer present you are on your own for running the stop sign or a run-in with our 1%’r nemesis. All that being said hope to see all of you (and more…) with tons of base miles swelling in your capillaries as we try to up the pace and produce some of the nations fastest bike racers. Best to all! Coach Gary Daniels”

9-4-2014 Georgia High School Mountain Biking From GAHSCL : ATLANTA, Ga. – High school mountain biking has arrived in Georgia! More than 100 student-athletes from 15 teams, 44 registered coaches and team managers, as well as parents, league officials and an army of volunteers, are heading to the Georgia International Horse Park, Conyers, GA, on September 7, for the historic first race of the Georgia High School Cycling League. The storied 1996 Olympic mountain biking venue kicks off a four-race series for Georgia high school students only, concluding November 2, that also visits Canton, Watkinsville and Gainesville. The series, organized by the Georgia High School Cycling League, takes place under the umbrella of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), a self-funded non-profit youth development organization that governs high school mountain biking in the United States.

Georgia League director, Dan Brooks, said, “The Georgia community has shown it’s ready for high school mountain biking. We have more than 100 student-athletes entered, and that start gun can’t come soon enough for them. Having 44 registered coaches as well shows the huge interest and growth potential here for this new school sport. (August 23, 2014) – Hundreds of amateur and elite cyclists are targeting the Upstate of South Carolina from September 13-14 for the culmination of a five-month, five-state racing competition, the 2014 Southeast Regional Series presented by Stan’s NoTubes (SRS). For a second year, Greenville will host the championships for SRS, with a downtown criterium on Saturday, September 13, and a road race on Sunday, September 14. The Downtown Greenville Criterium Championship on Saturday will be held in the popular West End Historic District. A one-kilometer course will begin and end at Main and River streets, incorporating Wardlaw St, Rhett St. and Camperdown Way for the racing circuit. Crowds will be close to local restaurants and shops, as well as the scenic Falls Park on the Reedy River. The Criterium features 11 categorized races, from two junior events to nine races for Masters and professional men and women riders. Racing begins at 8 a.m. and is expected to finish at 4:45 p.m.

On Sunday the Greenville Road Race Championship will utilize a beautiful 10-mile section of rolling roads near the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Parkway between Travelers Rest and Tigerville.  The King of the Mountain (for men) and Queen of the Mountain (for women) climb for awarded points will be on Trammel Road, a commonly known attack zone to local Greenville racers and riders alike. This offers a stair-step section of climbing that will make for some selective racing.  The Road Race will begin at 8 a.m. with the longest event of the day, a 74-mile Men’s Pro 1 /2 contest. The final race is expected to conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m., followed by awards at Tigerville Elementary School with the Blue Ridge Mountains as a scenic back drop.

Southeast Racing Series presented by Stan’s NoTubes is the only road racing series for amateur and elite cycling teams which offers points and prize money spanning multiple states in one region. SRS has completed eight of 10 days of racing since it began in May in Albany, Georgia. Each host city held two days of racing for men, women and juniors. Several of the venues this summer had as many as 325 registered riders each day, and this number is expected to double for the championship events in Greenville.  “It is great to see amateur teams racing together from so many Southern states. SRS is unique in that the series gets a great mix of riders, men and women, from all levels. We not only pride ourselves in delivering great venues for the competitors, but also provide memorable experiences for the racers, their families and friends, and spectators,” said Cullinane, who also owns Start Smart Cycling which is based in Greenville.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to register early before fields close at midnight on Friday, September 12. Registration information, the complete SRS schedule and event updates are available online at www.srs-racing.com.

Fouche Gap RR Cancelled From Rome Velo: “Unfortunately we will be unable to host this year’s Fouche Gap Race. After some scheduling difficulties with local municipalities this past Spring, we had been working on a September date. Regretfully, that has also encountered a host of issues. Sadly we have to throw in the towel, on this year, and focus our efforts on bringing this awesome event back in the Spring of 2015! We wish everyone the best of luck for the rest of the 2014 race season, we hope to see you at a few races!”

Duluth Crit Press Release: “August 2, 2014, 600 cyclists and 10,000+ spectators will descend upon the streets of DOWNTOWN DULUTH for a distinctly American brand of bike racing. The Criterium race is not a meandering country wide tour. It is a cycling’s short‐fast‐adrenaline filled answer to Nascar‐ a 45 minute circuit race around a ¾ mile course that makes fans as much a part of the action as the riders. This is not cycling you watch – its cycling you feel, and we want you to be a part of it!  The Georgia Cup Duluth Twilight Pro Criterium  is more than a professional cycling race. It is a festival of fitness, health, and wellness to promote preventative health. During the races, families will benefit from entertainment and fun, free family programming that will help combat the health issues like diabetes and heart disease that affect a disproportionately high percentage of residents in Metro-Atlanta.”

Take you wallet or anything that is of value with you or out of your car. Hide everything else. Lock your car! If you leave your purse, wallet, or laptop bag on the front seat of your car, it’s like asking a crook to break into your car! “Oh, hai, Mr. Crook! I’m here on the front seat, just waitin’ fur you!” If your car does get broken into, report it to the local police.
